“A well worthwhile experience ...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

You could easily think this place is just a comfortable beautifully maintained old house with friendly helpful staff and great food but that would to miss the loving attention to detail and professionalism that underlies its charm at every turn!

While maybe not the best place we’ve ever stayed in, it sure ranks pretty high. Get one of the large rooms if you can – ours was great – with its own little patio and no TV!

It pretty well lives up to its excellent marketing and that makes it a well worthwhile experience.

Room Tip: Get one of the large rooms if you can – ours was great – with its own little patio and no TV!

I surprised my wife with a two night stay for her birthday. It was fantastic. The level of service throughout our stay was exceptional. The food was delicious. We will be back for sure. Cathrina and Rachel - the front of house women - you are great hosts and are made for the business - keep up the great work.

“new years eve dinner”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 January 2012

My husband and I had a very enjoyable New Years Eve in Ballymaloe, food wonderful, wine lovely but it was Rory Allens singing and camaradarie in the drawing room that made it for us, the 60's disco after midnight was great fun for the hour.I have to say the waiting staff are super attentive BUT I do think that the management could have provided us punters with ONE comped drink for the countdown rather that scurrying round us all trying to get us to but some booze to ring in the new year with. It was €86 or so euro including service charge for the set meal which in this economic climate is not the norm we'd be spending on dinner out,I just felt it was a bit miserly of them.Great experience but will try the Castlemartyr Resort next time if still open.Happy New Year trip advisers.

“Lot of Ballyhoo, great anticipation but a disappointment”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 January 2012

Ballymaloe is a well established brand in the Irish hospitality and food business. With this as a backdrop we visited with great anticipation of the 'experience'. However we were disappointed on many fronts. Our room (Roof Room) was a poky attic room without a shower. Be prepared to pay €70 pp for 5 course dinner, no choice on the number of courses so if you are not very hungry you still pay full price. The vegatarian option was most disappointing while the duck was good. After dinner there was no atmosphere in the house.
Breakfast was average, the buffet is a bit chaotic and the cooked food was nothing special and just average.
Lose the pretentious uniforms, they are ridiculous.
Hard to think we will return.
