“excellent week-end retreat”

We took advantage of a special offer for 2 nights B&B and 1 dinner and were not disappointed.having stayed at The Heron's Cove about 5 years ago we were delighted to see that it had remained the same-basic but roomy and comfortable bedroom with beautiful view of the Cove directly in front of the bedroomof the balcony.
The dining room is comfortable and breakfast is as good as one can get-tasty local produce served by friendly local staff.
In the evening the log fire helps the ambiance. Dinner is also good although the a la carte menu will set you back a bit-the 3 course menu at €30 is reasonable. They have a unique wine cellar that displays the wines with descriptions and prices (very reasonable)attached by labels-it's a fun way of choosing.
4 bars and a few local stores are a 2 minute walk away.
Goleen is well located to explore nearby Crookhaven,Schull,Mizen Head, and Sheep's Head.
A perfect week-end getaway and very good value.

“Absolutely perfect!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 September 2011

I recently stayed in the Herons Cove for a two night stay, it is such a beautiful setting there, with plenty to do locally and to visit, the Mizen bridge, Crookhaven, the beach and so many areas to walk in. We ate in the restaurant on the Friday night and found the food to be to an excellent standard, there was an extensive choice and the food was beautiful when served. The restaurant was very busy the night we were there, but the service was fantastic and there was a great buzz and atmosphere. That was my third visit to the Herons Cove and I'm looking forward to my next visit already!

“Very satisfactory stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 September 2011

While the main attraction of the Heron's Cove is the excellent restaurant, the rooms are very pleasant and with a view of the Cove which changes with the tide and the light. The restaurant is excellent. The staff are very welcoming and helpful. Cuisine is based on local produce especially fish and meat. The fixed menu offers an excellent choice and almost distracts from the a la carte menu and the wine choice is very good. The breakfast choice is splendid. The Mizzen Peninsula is beautiful and Goleen is a good base to see it and the nearby areas of West Cork. We will be back

“Haven of peace in a beautiful setting!”

Heron's Cove has just six bedrooms and overlooks a very peaceful tidal harbour where, surprise, surprise herons can be seen fishing. As a B&B I think it is one of the best in Cork and offers excellent value.

Sue, the owner makes sure that everything is kept clean and tidy and the bedrooms are very cosy on a rainy day. The restaurant downstairs serves excellent food and has a great wine list/rack - fresh seafood and excellent steaks.

It is a very popular place and in summer is usually fully-booked. The staff buzz around trying to be as quick and efficient as possible but sometimes you need to wait a tad - it is not a fast-food joint! The breakfasts are way above average and basically you can have anything you want (within reason!) Great sausages and full Irish or omelettes cooked just right. The area around Goleen is spectacular - Barleycove Bay, Brow Head, Three Castle Head, Mizen Head, Crookhaven, Schull, Balleydehob and is breathtaking (more so when the sun shines........) As a base for the far West of Cork it is a great place to stay and unwind. We will always have many happy memories and please Sue keep the place running for many more years yet! We try to return every Summer - although Autumn would be great time to visit too.

“A Relaxing time...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 September 2011

We recently spent 4 nights in Herons Cove. Our stay was perfect. The room was a generous sized family room with balcony and wonderful view. Comfortable beds, plenty of room and peace and quiet meant we all had good nights sleep. Sue and staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast and evening meals were delicious. Even a fussy 8 yeal old's tastes were catered for. Pancakes for breakfast went down a treat. Would definately stay again and look forward to a return visit. Even the sun shone !
