“A First-Rate State Park!!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2011

Norris is truly a fantastic state park. It is a scaled down national park. The Lenoir museum is a must-see. The east campground is not well shaded and older but is very close to the rustic cabins and you can walk or bike out of your campsite to the lakeside trails. The west campground is well shaded, new and secluded. The deluxe cabins on the west side of the park are very accommodating and the rustic cabins on the east side are comfortable and great for a couple. This is a great mountain biking park. Trails can be accessed everywhere and there is no need to drive to any trailhead to access the seemingly endless network. Norris lake has plenty of boat docks to rent a boat or jet ski and lots of good swimming and fishing. If you are in the northern metro Knoxville area this park is well worth the visit.

“Norris Dam State Park is beautiful & affordable”

My husband & I stayed for the weekend in celebration of our 1 year anniversary.
I loved the lush vegetation on the hiking trails, the wildlife and our cabin.
You should bring a bike, hiking shoes, a camera, a swim suit and food to grill.
You can rent a pontoon boat, visit the threshing barn, or the Lenoir museum. They have a tennis & basketball court & a swimming pool.
Our frineds were married in the ampitheater and had their reception in the tea room during the Fall. It was beautiful!

“An Awsome camping/Hiking/ Museum place!!!!!!!!!!!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 October 2008

It is very rare I find a place where the Hiking and Camping is on par with The Smokie Mountains National Park. Norris Dam State park is! Though they do not have the water hikes there they do have some great activities here!

Very close to the Museum of the appilachians and two other great state parks and a wildlife refuge, youll feel away from EVERYTHING! THe campground was clean and well taken care of. The rangers were very nice, we asked one for a hiking map and a general park map and they brought one to the campsite for us! The spaces are BIG and the tent camping sites feel like your alone at night although the place was 90 percent full. It is a first come first serve park and the gates close at 10 pm so dont come at 1am expecting to get a site. THey do not take reservations! The Bathhouse was ultra clean and the playground was full of children enjoying themselves.

The trails there are a little rugged but very comparable to the smokies. We hiked around 6 miles of trails there. We enjoyed the hootin hollow, andrews ridge and others.

THe mill was one of the finest we have ever visited! Very nice, surpasses teh mills in teh smokies national park in our book. We didnt visit the threshing barn since we have seen umpteen barns in our lives but we did go to the lenor museum.

The lenor museum is a must, ITS FREE and really does a great job showing how life was in the appilachans. We came back on sunday to watch the free music concert they have and really enjoyed it.

THe weirs dam was neat too! We was able to climb the gate and walk on teh dam since the norris dam was not releasing water, the next day the water was up over wier dam and not accessable!

There are LOTS of animals in teh park, we saw numerous deer, a racoon, a badger looking thing and tons of bids. I also saw some creature I was not familiar with, it was small adn had a head of a fox, the tail of a squeerl adn the body of a possum sor tof and BIG round eyes. It was adorable!

I comp[letly recommend tent camping here for ANYONE! the hiking is AWSOME! teh dam is BEUTIFUL! The history youll learn is priceless!

“AAA Cabins”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 August 2008

What a pleasant surprise! We spent three nights in one of the State Park AAA cabins, and it was wonderful. These cabins have three bedrooms, a kitchen that is truly fully furnished, central A/C, carpet, fireplace, etc. There was plenty of room, and the layout of the cabin was great.

We spent two days on a pontoon boat, which we rented at the marina. The water was warm, clear, and my kids loved to swim in it, something which we were not sure they would like to do. The park also has an Olympic sized swimming pool, which is free to those renting the AAA cabins. Next to the pool is a recreation center, where you can play games, pool, etc. if weather keeps you indoors.

We stayed in cabin #4, which had plenty of flat space for the kids to run around on. Cabins 8, 9, and 10 have little grassy area, and drop off around back. We were right across the street from the playground, and since the road dead ends at cabin 10, there was little traffic around the area.

When I give this an excellent rating, it's because of the value for the price. Where else can you get all this for $80/night and have such clean, safe, and welcoming accomodations?

“a wide variety of activities”

NDSP has a lot to offer. You have a wide variety for the land lover: trails, recreational fields, camp and RV sites, cabins, swimming pool, picnic facilities, etc.
If you enjoy the water, you’ll have plenty of opportunity to fish, swim, and take the boat out on Norris Lake. A couple of museum/visitor’s center is located on the premises. TVA has a small visitor’s center that has an exhibit on the history of TVA in the Norris Region. There are some really nice volunteers (TVA retirees) who have some really good stories to tell. The state park has a museum (free admission) that consists of a barn, mill, and an extensive collection of common items used in the Appalachian Mtns. This museum is really nice (free) appetizer for (but not a replacement of) the nearby Museum of Appalachian.
