We recently stayed at the Orchard Creek Cottages with our toddler son. The accommodations were ideal for small children since each cottage has a refrigerator, stove, cooking utinsils and separate sleeping area. The grounds around the cottages are well maintained and suitable for children to play. There is also a playground within walking distance. The property manager is helpful and knowledgeable about the area. The only drawbacks were our unit only had a shower, which made bathing a small child difficult, and the area was teeming with misquitoes. It's also worth noting the Spearfish fire station is a few blocks away, so the fire whistle is particuarly loud and is programmed to go off at 7 am, noon and 6 pm, and if there's a large fire or weather emergency.

Traveling with a early-to-bed family member, I looked for places that were unique and offered separate living and sleeping quarters. Orchard Creek fit the bill to a "T". Quirky and obviously from an earlier time (which I like), the cottages were sparkling clean and cozy -- and had the speediest wi-fi in South Dakota!

I can't think of anything bad to say about Orchard Creek Cottages! If you're looking for a clean, comfortable, quaint, place to stay, this is where you want to be. You'd never realize that you're right in town. They have a big, nice & clean back yard, with plenty of chairs to use outside. There is a creek running through the property that the kids loved to cool off in! The owners are top-notch, very accommodating and friendly. And I can't complain about the rates either.
No place better - whether going by yourself or with a family reunion! It was WONDERFUL!
