“Friendly staff, cozy rooms, and convenient”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

While on a cross-country road trip, my wife and I stopped for the night in Spearfish. We chose the Days Inn because the price was nice, they offered a government rate, and more importantly, they allowed pets (for a $10 fee).

The staff was nice, and the rooms were clean. A unique aspect was the two doors. There was an exterior door which led directly to the parking lot. This made loading the car a breeze, especially with the dog. The second door was an interior door that opened to the hallway in the motel. This was especially nice for breakfast, because it allows you to get to breakfast without having to leave the building. Good feature in the winter.

I was happy with this choice and would recommend it to other travelers. The rooms were cozy, and the location was convenient. It was next to plenty of gas stations and places to eat. Easy in and out when passing through.

Hi wigleyem

We really appreciate the very kind review you took the time to write. It's really nice to hear you had such a pleasant stay with us . As i mentioned in previous replies the exterior access on the ground level has gotten great reviews, and as you mentioned its much easier to get luggage in and out but especially nice if you are travelling with a "furry friend", which more and more people are doing these days. We are also proud to say that we are one of the few "Pet Friendly" hotels left in Spearfish.

We really look forward to seeing you next time you pass through Spearfish, and make sure and bring your dog and we will make sure and have some puppy treats ready at check in.

“Love this place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012

We've stay here whenever we're in Spearfish overnight. The price is great and the beds are extremely comfortable. The cable TV offers a LOT of channels, which is great and the wireless speed was good. Breakfast included yogurt and I always see that as a nice bonus because it's rare to find a protein source in a continental breakfast.

Room Tip: Get an upstairs room for limited noise. The downstairs rooms are convenient though, with doors both...

“Make Sure You Arrive for Breakfast WAY Before 9 A.M.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

Stayed at this property for an overnight in August 2011. The premises is a somewhat dated facililty; it needs to lose the "cabin" wallpaper border around the room, put the frig in or atop a cabinet and replace the very dated light fixture over the vanity. These things said, the property is very convenient to food and drug stores as well as a number of fast food and sitdown restaurants.

My primary objection to my stay was the shutting down of breakfast prior to the posted 9:00 a.m. hour. Fortunately, my daughter and I had arrived to the breakfast area around 8:30 so we were covered. However, at 8:45, a staff person began disconnecting appliances, emptying carafes, putting away all food, etc. A couple with two young children entered the area about this time. When they asked about getting breakfast, the woman told them, "Well, we stop breakfast by 9." Unfortunately for them, the family accepted this "explanation" and turned and left. IF a hotel/motel states its hours for breakfast are until 9:00, then all food items and cooking appliances should be available until the stated time. After 9:00, the attendant can feel the serving time for breakfast is now over, and he/she can begin putting food away, while guests continue to finish their meals.

Our stay here was part of a two-month, 60-night cross-country trip. This was the first, and only, instance in which food items were being put away prior to the stated end time of the breakfast. I would not have accepted the server's explanation that guests should expect that everything was to be put away BY 9:00.

Hi Travelers-R-US-246

We appreciate you taking the time to write a review for our hotel. With regards to the breakfast being taken down before the advertised time, i have spoken to the staff involved and addressed the issue so it will never happen again, though i appreciate you bringing it to our attention. We are in the process of remodelling all 50 rooms again and are about 3/4 ways through with the remainder hopefully to be finished by end of summer this year. As we always mention our main emphasis will always be clean comfortable rooms with the friendliest helpful staff in Spearfish.

“Friendly Staff, Ok Breakfast Bar, suite is not worth the money”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 January 2012

My Husband and I stop in Spearfish as our half way point on about every trip. This hotel was $10 less that the Super 8 we usually stay at. Since its a long drive we always get the jacuzzi sweet. This hotel has a pretty good sweet but the tub is one person only. It is also right next to the front desk. So every guest that asks a question you hear..... at all times of the night. One guest asked if there was anyone in the room next to him and the clerk said no. That guest replied "Good I always like to check first," then preceded to hold a practice session, instruments and all, at 4:30 am. Guess what, we were in the room next to them. So don't bother paying for the suite if you like a quiet room.

On the plus side the first floor rooms have an outside and inside entrance to the rooms. This makes toting luggage short since you can park in front of your door.

However, we will go back to the Super 8 the tub is nicer, room much quieter, and the price is good.

Room Tip: Don't book the jacuzzi sweet... right by the front desk and loud! First floor has inside and out...

Hi Crimsonk

We appreciate you taking the time to write a review. We are sorry to hear that your stay was not as you had hoped. The suite is indeed close by front desk but in all my years as owner Ive not heard anyone mention being able to hear guests checking in or hearing people in the lobby. As for having another guest in the room next to you and having them have a practice session till 4.30, I'm sure had you brought that to the front desk staff's attention they would most certainly have addressed it on your behalf, i also find it hard to believe if as you say it was as noisy that front desk themselves didn't hear it as the room would be just one more up the hall from them and address it as they have been trained to do. We do get a lot of positive feedback about the ground floor rooms and their outside access which as you mentioned makes it a lot easier for luggage.

“Excellent experience!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 January 2012

This was our first stay at this particular motel, but we would definitely stay there again. The facility was clean and well maintained, but the most impressive part of our stay was the staff - we found them to be very personable, friendly and helpful.
