The Thunderbird is a great alternative to the hotel chains. The room was spacious, clean comfortable, quiet, and with a coupon from the roadside rest area - a really good deal. I have stayed at this place more than once and been satisfied every time. I would stay there again

We came in exhausted from the drive the lady who checked us in was very nice and gave us a discount - bless her heart. We had our kids in the room, slept well, the bathrooms are clean and a great option for the price. I agree the breakfast is enough to get you going in the morning, for us veteran road travelers we prefer honest good old fashion service and older motels are a wonderful option.
Drawback - the room had a lot of light pollution from the parking lot and when our son got up to use the bathroom during the night the bathroom light lit up the room.

Next stop Chief Motel in Custer the kids want to hit the pool.

This is about the 4th time we stayed at the Thunderbird, We bring our son to Mitchell SD every year, and then stay later in the Fall to watch him play football at DWU. Our room is always clean and spotless. The breakfast is good enough to get you going in the morning , which is included in the room price. I think it is the best value in Mitchell. I have stayed at the Motel 6, and the Thunderbird is hands down better! Speak to Matt the Owner/Manager and he will do his best for you! Highly recommended!

After reading reviews on Tripadvisor, we booked this lodge. We paid more than 100 dollars Bedsheets were not washed and air conditioner made terrible noise overnight. Recliner in the really old and dirty.
If people upstairs walking, you can hear their footsteps overnight. Breakfast was OK.
Their whirlpool is like a small puddle on the floor.
Not worth it at all.
