Our reservation somehow was made for a smoking room. I do fault myself for this because the e-mail Super 8 central reservations had sent said it was a smoking room I'd reserved, but I hadn't noticed. I'm particular about choosing non-smoking rooms and unfortunately it's a lesson learned.
We got a smoking room on the first floor. They couldn't move us to a non-smoking room because they had a bus load of seniors on a tour. The room smelled not only of smoke but we later noticed the distinct smell of urine. There were coins between the bed and the nightstand and between the dresser and the tv stand. The metal register in the room had rust spots on top of it, the chairs were stained, there was something on the nightstand itself and the base of the toilet was disgusting. I considered checking out and moving to another hotel but was concerned they might be full so we made the best of it by spending as much time out of the room as possible. Frankly I was thrilled we'd only booked the place for one night.
Breakfast wasn't too great. They do make "homemade" cinnamon rolls which seemed popular. They were okay in taste. The juice seemed a little watered down.
Maybe our experience was so negative because we were in the older part of the hotel? The front desk clerk was friendly, but honestly the housekeeping staff needs to pay serious attention to detail. I wouldn't stay in this place again if they paid me.
