“Martin & Mason Hotel & Casino is Deadwood's Best Bet for Service & History”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 August 2010

Spent two wonderful days at this authentically restored hotel. Friendly, abundant service is the star attraction, however the hotel rooms are lavishly restored and and are very, very quiet. The hotel is located on Deadwood's second main street, but it is only a 50 yard walk to the old historic main street. I would highly recommend this hotel for any family gathering or reunion. The parking is excellent, right outside the entrance. This hotel and the Wooden Nickel Casino were recommended to me by a friend and I would highly recommend it to all my friends and family.

“Historic feeling AND exceptional service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 July 2010

Service, service, service; all top of the line. Never expected such response to whatever I mentioned, someone went out of their way to inform me or show me to be sure I felt I knew what was going on in Deadwood. The room(s) are restored to perfection, in every detail, AND functionly comfortable, especially the bed. Everything is within walking distance and local free shuttle makes this a desireable spot.

“Martin and Mason is the perfect intimate hotel to make your Deadwood stay exceptional and memorable”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 May 2010

I brought my son and mother-in-law to stay at Martin and Mason and it was a wonderful experience. The hotel was immaculate and the rooms restored to perfection. Our room with the lovely bathroom and spectacular, luxurious blue bedding was beautiful and most comfortable. The scones and tea in the morning were perfect and the staff went beyond the call of duty to make our stay special, from reservations to check out. We felt so welcomed and have recommended Martin and Mason to several friends already. The little casino downstairs was perfect for my mother in law and my son enjoyed an early morning run on the old train bed trail nearby. Our dinner at Jake's was lovely as well. It was a joy to meet the Martin and Mason owner, Melanie. Thanks to the Martin and Mason staff and lovely property, we have wonderful memories of our stay in Deadwood and our visit to Mt. Rushmore.

“Couldn't ask for a better place to stay!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 April 2010

From the elevator, to the staff, to the rooms, the Martin & Mason hotel was a wonderful place to stay. My husband and I stayed there 2 nights for our anniversary and were very impressed. On our first night there we were the only ones on the floor and felt like we went back in time. It was quiet, relaxing, the bed was heavenly, and the tub delightful. One of the staff, Mona, was fantastic and told us a lot of the history on the hotel. It was clear that a lot of thought and care went into renovating this hotel and we are certainly going back to visit.

“Beautiful, Overpriced, Historic Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 April 2010

I specifically chose this hotel because it was a historic hotel in downtown Deadwood with good reviews on TripAdvisor. My husband and I stayed in the Sanderson Suite (Room 1). The room was spacious and clean with antique furnishings and a comfortable pillow-top mattress! There was no tub in the bathroom, but a nice tile walk-in shower. There was no counter space in the bathroom, just a small metal wall shelf next to the corner sink. Soda was complimentary and provided in a community mini-fridge near the elevator. While there was a flat-screen television in the room, there was no telephone (I do not know about the availability of in-room internet service... I left my laptop at home!). There was not an alarm clock provided in the room. Scones, coffee, tea, and hot chocolate were provided in the hallway in the morning (the scones were excellent!). A coffee maker was not provided in the room.

The Martin and Mason Hotel is truly a lovely experience... except for the price! We paid roughly $250/night in April (definitely the off-season in the Black Hills). We have stayed in several other hotels that were in the price range of $200 - $250/night (including other historic hotels); all providing far more in service than the Martin and Mason. Some of the amenities that we have seen in other similar hotels have been in-room mini-fridges with complimentary beverages, coffee makers with local coffee provided, robes, and telephones. A far more appropriate price would have been in the $150 - $160/night range (the price is the only reason why I am not recommending the hotel).
