“Wild West sophistication”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 July 2009

We held our annual training at the Martin & Mason Hotel. Staff and trainers stayed at the hotel and we used their ballroom as our classroom. Melanie and the staff were very accomodating - no request was too big or too small. We'd arranged for the hotel to serve the attendess breakfast and lunch. Breakfast was a continental breakfast, but wait served with Melanie's homemade scones and/or coffee cake in the morning! Lunch was always a treat and Melanie and her staff were diligent in accomodating the vegatarians and those with food allergies in the group. Our attendees were well taken care of and fed extremely well. It was crucial to an intense week of training. I would return to Deadwood for another meeting and would be sure to hold it at the Martin & Mason Hotel.

“A very romantic experience!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 March 2009

The rooms in this hotel each have a history all their own. When you walk in you are stepping back into time to an age of wonder. Incredible!
And the requisite first-floor casino closes at night, so the entire building is quiet during off hours. The building is only a block away from Main Street so you can walk over and enjoy the nightlife, then later return to the peaceful serenity of your room.

“Would'nt stay anywhere else in Deadwood”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 March 2009

My wife and I spent a two night stop here on our way to see our son in Montana. We've stayed in Deadwood once before at the Hampton Inn but preferred something special this time.

The Martin Mason was wonderful. We had zero problems (not even with the HVAC system). Staff was polite and the room was spotless.

Going up to our room in the old restored elevator and then down the hallway reminded me of being on the set of an old Bonaza T.V. show. The hotel really makes you feel you are back in the Old West but with modern day comforts.

We will definetly stay here again and recommend that you stay here too!

“Deadwood is an outstanding place”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 June 2008

This was a truly unique experience. We arrived shortly after 3 foot blizzard had hit and the city was still snow clearing. Something those od us from the Deep South found intriguing. We learned that this historic hotel had only recently opened in the Fall of 2007 and was still working out the bugs. The rooms were beautifully furnished, the coffee and scones every morning delightful, and the staff catered to our every need. The only glitch (and it was major) was the HVAC system: it was either way too hot or not working at all. The staff spent every day working on it only to learn that it was a mechanical system problem that was overlooked during the restoration. The wireless internet system was buggy--no one told about the ethernet. Flat screen televisions and nice baths complement the experience. While there was a casino on the first floor, smoke and noise never bothered us. Overall, this was a great experience and I would not hesitate in recommending a stay here.

My husband and I stayed at the Martin and Mason Hotel in Deadwood, South Dakota on January 25th leaving on the 28th. This was a three night stay for a romantic getaway. From the moment that we checked in to the moment we left, the folks at this hotel went above and beyond for us. A clerk personally show us to our room and gave us a tour, by the way we stayed in room 1. Every morning outside our room was fresh coffee and homemade blueberry muffins. This hotel only has three floors, the first floor has a casino, sorry we are not gamblers and I cannot comment on the casino, the 2nd floor has 12 rooms that is it. The 3rd floor is a ballroom which was closed during our stay but we did sneak a peek and WOW how beautiful. Room 1 that we stayed in was done in antique style with old door knobs and original crown moulding and base. My husband and I are in the millworks business and restore old homes often but this hotel had all the ritz of the 1800's. We visited and compared several hotels in downtown Deadwood such as mineral palace, the franklin, bullock hotel, ironhorse inn, and dozens of others and None were as nice as this place, most of the others seemed smokey, (we are none smokers with Asthma). The other hotels rooms had smoke coming from the casinos into the rooms which is not good if you hate smoke, that is why the hotel is so great, the 2nd floor was completely sealed off from the casino. I recommend this hotel to anyone traveling and wanting a romantic getaway, the bed alone is enough reason to stay in the room. I have a spinal cord injury and had been recently hospitalized in Dec. for 2 weeks, I had not been able to sleep in a bed for three months until we stayed in Room 1 of this hotel, this bed was the best, we are thinking about buying the extra matteress that they had for sale... I do not know anywhere else that you can have such a amazing experience and we travel alot and have been on the road since July 2007 and again this was the best, it is a little pricey, but worth every penny and more.
