My daughter was moving to Boise so it was the two of us and her little dog so needed a "pet friendly" place. The Visitor Bureau set us up at Deadwood Dicks. We got a two room suite. We drove over and I went in to register. It was like walking into a giant antique store with a bar and a hotel combined! Mary signed us in and told us she would have someone show us to our room and help with our luggage. We gathered out things (and we had a lot) and followed him. The trick to all this was getting to our room.
First of all this is a very very old building so we entered from the street into a small hallway. The elevator is the very old two door type you open yourself (did you see The Kings Speech)? Both doors must be closed upon entering and exiting otherwise it wont work for you or anyone else calling the elevator. We went to the third floor and exited then walked down the hall to a few steps that led to a door. After opening thee door, we walked across a roof to another door and stepped down again to two steps down and took a left to our room!
As we walked into our suite there was a small kitchen area complete with sink, full size refrigerator and a cook top stove. It was filled with dishes needed to fix a meal and everything was very clean. The room opened into a larger room with a queen sized bed and small sitting area and a tv.. The hall way led to a full sized large and clean bathroom on the left and further down leading to a nice large room overlooking the street and provided a king size bed. All the rooms were very nice and clean.
This hotel also has some upscale more beautiful suites on the main floor that do not require using the "Kings Speech" elevator but I will say we had a few laughs and considered it an adventure to stay there. We were also engaged looking at the array of antiques in the place for sale and enjoyed a few adult beverages while sitting at the bar with our small dog in tow.
As we were leaving the next morning, I was carrying our little dog out for her morning constitution and the elevator could not be called. Someone had left the doors open so I proceeded down the three flights of stairs and shouted out to the couple in the parking lot loading their van that the doors had not been closed and some inconsiderate persons had done that. They only looked at me and said nothing. Always one in very bunch.
All in all I really enjoyed our stay and wished we had video-taped the route to our room. You have to have sense of humor in life and this was one of those times.
