i stayed here recently and it was just ok. i mean, it wasn't totally horrible but i didn't really enjoy it.
1-the room was smoking, that's what i prefer, but even i, who do not mind the smell of smoke at all, was choking on the smoke smell.
2-i paid for a queen bed and received a double. and it was a bed on wheels which was not very comfortable at all.
3-construction right outside my window-they were re-doing their front walkway or something and running a jackhammer right below my window at 8 am.
4-distance from downtown-it is a ways from where all the action is, but you shouldn't have to walk far because they have a trolley and there is parking in downtown deadwood.
now for the good-
1-the staff was pretty friendly. front desk guy said to "travel safe young lady" which was nice and of course the bartenders are nice but they're lookin for tips.
2-the casino-it is huge and it is a lot of fun. we played for a couple hours and broke even.
3-the view-the view out of my window was onto the highway but also across the street was a campground that was a little scenic and the background was definitely scenic black hills view. if you look far to the right you can see the start of downtown.
overall, i think it was probably a good hotel, for deadwood, but if i had it to do again, i wouldn't stay in deadwood at all. really it was a waste, just a lot of older people gambling at penny slots, and the hotels are wayyyyyyyy overpriced. this was the worst, and most expensive hotel i stayed in my whole trip. and i stayed in 4 different hotels in the black hills area. if you want to go to deadwood, make a day of it, and drive back to rapid city. that's my advice.
also, there is a parking ramp downtown and i think we parked there 4 hours for $7. all the other parking downtown is metered, and the trolley costs per ride, so i would highly recommed parking in the parking ramp if you have your vehicle, not worrying about the trolley!
