“Pleasantly surprised.”

Great friendly service. Check-in counter was more towards the back of the 1st floor which took me back a bit as when I entered the front doors, it led me up a big staircase. I had to come back down to find the registration desk. I booked a 1 queen room which faced the back. Only a handful of rooms face the main street. Rate was cheap compared to other hotels this particular weekend night. I wasn't expecting a modern hotel room nor a fancy one and although it didn't really surpass those expectations, it still provided a good room at a great price. Great place to stay in the historic main street area.

“Good place to stay right on Main Street in the middle of Deadwood.”

A really neat old motel to stay in. The rooms have been updated pretty well, and a really neat old place. Do the tour at night and learn the history of the hotel and town.

“Historic Hotel, Great Location”

Loved the Bullock. It is a restored historic hotel, so is old. We had a double room, which was small but had everything we needed. Free cocktails while gambling in the casino. Bully's Bar had a nice atmosphere for a quiet drink and was where breakfast and lunch could be purchased. The hotel has a reputation for being haunted and a book of stories of such for reading. It is right at the center of the main street so convenient for everything.

“Nice, comfy hotel rooms but loud air con”

Being a fan of the 'deadwood' show I was excited about staying in this hotel. Unfortunately by the time I got to Deadwood I was becoming quite sick, I didn't get to see a lot of the town but I did get to spend a lot of time in my hotel room, mostly the bed. At no point did I get fed up of being bedridden so therefor it must have been a very comfy bed.

My only issue with the room was the air conditioning unit, even when the fan was turned off it made a fairly loud noise. If you sleep like a log no problem but if you are a fussy sleeper like myself then it could be an issue.

“Sorry to report...general disappointment”

Booked two rooms several months in advance by calling the hotel directly. The gal who answered the phone was pleasant. Requested non-smoking rooms. Was told the new owner is planning to make all but five rooms smoking rooms, so by the time we arrived in Deadwood, the rooms we were given would be repainted, totally cleaned, and renewed as non-smoklng rooms. This was #308 and #312. When we arrived, we were given our keys and made our way to the third floor without bell service (no big deal). 308 is right off the elevator, when we opened the door the rush of stale cigarette smoke hit us like a punch in the face. Contrary to what a previous reviewer reports, there were several glass ashtrays inside the room. 312 smelled less smoky, but it could still be detected even by the least sensitive individual. Carpets were in rough shape, but the beds were good except for the stale smoke odor in the bedding. Bathrooms were decent, water pressure good. 308 had an issue with toilet plugging up even with non-solids being flushed away. A plunger was sent up right away by room service. Kept it around in case, but didn't need it again.
Desk staff were very nice to work with, although they all had multiple jobs to do and sometimes we had to wait. They were attentive though. Actually felt bad for them having to attend to multiple customers all needing something at once.
Soda machines on a 2nd floor hallway were all out of order.
Ice had to be given to you by showing up at the front desk with your ice bucket for the desk person to fill for you. Sort of a pain, but real estate in this hotel is at a premium.
This hotel is certainly historic and very beautiful! The casino area was laid out very well, plenty of room to wander and check out the extremely tight slot machines. The bar that was once called Seth's (something) was still closed, and no one knew if it would ever be reopened. Bully's, the restaurant/bar on the main floor off the casino is a gorgeous room with a huge fireplace. You do feel like you stepped back in time and wondered how it was to be there back in the old days. The restaurant consisted of a small grill and fridge behind the bar where a single cook slinged breakfast and lunch. No dinner is served at the Bullock Hotel. Imagine that. An employee said the new management is considering doing away with breakfast and lunch as well! If you do play the slots, you'll be offered free drinks, which is one benefit, but most of the casinos in Deadwood offer this as well. No ghosts seen, heard, or sensed throughout the week we stayed at the Bullock. Overall, all I can report is our stay was just....okay. Sad to say, because we really did have high hopes for our vacation at the Bullock Hotel. Our next trip out, unless things change for the better, we'll book elsewhere.

Room Tip: Some rooms are connecting, some are not. This is an old old building, and floors aren't always l...
