“Freindly, reasonable, and comfy”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 October 2011

Stayed in many places in Deadwood over the years, like to stay downtown to walk from place to place.Comfort Inn is on the edge of town on the way to Lead. It is a great place! Clean and comfy rooms, Mini golf, go carts, bumper boats and a game room for kids, plus a casino for mom and dad. There are 2 other casinos right across the road, and if those don't do it for you, they have a shuttle bus that takes you to a sister property downtown. The city trolley bus also stops there, so you can leave your car behind if you wish to spend time downtown. Oh, and they have a great comp breakfast! Friendly, helpful staff.

“LOVED OUR STAY”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 September 2011

We took a family trip last year to Deadwood. We have a 17 yr old and A 7 yr old. There was plenty to do fo all ages at this hotel. I would go back next time we go out west.

Thank you for your comments about your stay at the Comfort Inn. Of course, we love hearing from guests who enjoy their stay but we really love hearing how their kids also had a great time. We are proud of our Gulches of Fun Amusement Park as the kids love it and it gives them something fun to do while visiting Deadwood during the summer. However, there are many times that adults seem to be having more fun than the kids on the go-carts! We sure appreciate your review and look forward to having you as a guest when you head out west again!

“One of the few great places for kids in this town”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 August 2011

The Deadwood Comfort Inn is one of the most fun places in this city, if you have a family, because the hotel is connected directly to a pretty large (for these parts) amusement park. This is good because much of the rest of the ‘amusements’ in town have to do with gambling and for families with younger kids, they might be scared off by most of the other ‘amusement’ places in town.
The park has go karts, bumper boats, a miniature golf course (that was pretty fun to play), other games and an arcade room. But the park closes at 8 during the week which can be a drag during the summer when its light out late and the kids still want things to do.
The hotel rooms themselves are fairly reasonable. The rooms are clean but not overly large. The bathrooms are large and have medium quality shower/tubs.
The hotel is on a main road heading into downtown so it would be wise to request a back side room if you don’t want to be bothered by road noise. Plus the late afternoon sun heats up the rooms if the shades aren’t drawn. We checked in about 5, dropped off our bags in our room and left for dinner and games. But when we got to our room, the temperature was up to 82 degrees in the room. We set the thermometer on 70 and left. When we returned after 8, the room was only down to 81 degrees. We called the front desk to find out that the rooms had a motion sensor and when you are not in the room, it shuts down the A/C to save energy. Nice idea in general but not when you need to really cool the room. Luckily after we returned from dinner, it only took about 30 minutes of us in the room for the A/C to get the temp down to the comfort zone.
The hotel has a decent pool and hot tub, but one bothersome thing is that they stack a small room of slot machines that you MUST walk through to get from the front door to the elevator. They also have a main casino with lots more machines but they kick you out if you have kids with you. Despite this, there is no such removal if you are in the ‘transition’ room.
The staff was very nice. The breakfast attendant in particular was very friendly and worked her tail off to keep the large breakfast room clean and well stocked. She was awesome.
The only other problem with the hotel was the elevator badly needed maintenance. It’s the only elevator in the hotel and it made lots of unusual clicking and scraping noises. Once when we were all in it with our bags (two adults, three kids and full luggage cart), it seemed to sag a few inches when we got to the third floor….a little scary…but it did make it okay.
Overall, a pretty good place that I’d highly recommend to anybody with kids. While it is still about a five to seven minute drive to downtown, this is still a good place to stay.
The free internet worked well.

Room Tip: Get an upper floor room to avoid casino noise but beware the crappy elevator

We want to thank you for taking the time to post your review on TripAdvisor. It is great to hear that your kids had a fun time as well. And, yes, we get a lot of comments on how fun our mini-golf course is to play! So glad you enjoyed it. We do appreciate your comments on the elevator and are happy to report that our elevator has since been serviced. The safety of our guests is of upmost importance. Thank you again for your review and we look forward to seeing you again!

“Nice, cheap clean hotel just outside of city but close enough!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 August 2011

My husband and I stayed here for our first night of a two week road trip to the west coast. We checked out Crazy Horse and Mount Rushmore and then checked in at about 5 or 6 pm. We had just driven for about 14 hours so the complimentary shuttle to the downtown area was a MUCH WELCOMED amenity. Check in was easy and our room was a little bit dated and simple but clean. The breakfast was pretty good with waffles, eggs, bacon, etc. If we were to come back to Deadwood I would stay here again because it's cheap, clean and has a good location for visiting the surrounding areas (Sturgis is only about 25 minute drive). There is a water/amusement park next door but since we were there for just one night we didn't check it out.

Our team thanks you for your review on TripAdvisor. We are glad you utilized our free shuttle service to downtown Deadwood – after driving 14 hours – having someone else behind the wheel must have been a relief! We look forward to seeing you again on your next road trip.
