“Manager ruined it!”

We had stayed here 4 times before but when we stayed the last time, The Older man working was so rude and disrespectful! We had booked the rooms for 3 nights and the lady working the day the reservations were made, had messed up and put us in for only 2 days, we told the manager and he completely argued with us, we were nice at first but finally my aunt had it and told him, instead of trying to help he yelled back and told us he would be glad if we never came back. The rooms we loved, we stayed in the suites and it was perfect! we were very happy with them! so if you don't mind being treated like S*** then stay here! (if it weren't for the mean man, we would be staying here again.)

This is a curious review. When we record reservations for Suites, the reservation is recorded in four different and separate locations. None of these locations indicated that the reservation was more than two days. Additionally, the front desk clerk is trained to read back the reservation if the reservation is made over the phone, which it was.
When the guests checked in, they tried to tell us that they had made the reservation for three days. Our records indicated a reservation for two days. We informed the guest that we could accommodate them but they would have to move one of the rooms for the final day. After a short time, the entire guest pary showed up at the desk literally becoming abusive and demanding a significant discount. We had no reason to believe a discount was due to this party or that we should move another reservation, since the Suites are unique, for an error on the part of the party making the reservation.

“Nice amenities, and pretty creek. Deadwood for adults, though.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 August 2011

We stayed here as part of a one-day diversion from the southern part of the Black Hills. We thought we'd take in a day in Deadwood, to see the town. We stayed in a creekside suite at the Black Hills Inn, and were quite pleased. The room was huge - the kids had a separate bedroom with bunkbeds and their own TV, while the master bedroom had a king-sized bed and sofa. The patio overlooking the creek was very nice as well.

The continental breakfast was so-so; not as good as those at major hotel chains. The pool was nice, and the staff were very accommodating in opening it up an hour earlier than the scheduled time of 10 am.

All in all, we enjoyed our stay in the hotel. However, if you are travelling with kids, we would suggest you reconsider visiting Deadwood in general. The main focus is gambling and saloons - not much of interest for the kids.

“Enjoyable Stay”

We had 4 couples stop by on our way thru the area. Quiet location just outside of town. We took the trolly into town for dinner and a little night life, great idea. Staff was friendly, rates were better then most in the area, rooms were clean and beds were comfortable. Did not get a chance to use the pool, but it looked nice. Breakfast left a little to be desired, but it was enough to get us started for the day. Overall a nice place to stay.

“Handy Serenity”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 July 2011

Without reservations, we were first directed to "Central Booking" - a staff of phone operators located in the post office directly behind the Deadwood Information Center. Spared the hassle of looking for vacancy and the best rate, we were quickly connected to the Black Hills Inn and Suites. Right between Deadwood and Lead, this hotel offers serenity when we needed it and the convenience of a trolley when it was time for dinner. Although the rooms are small, they are well worth the value, cleanliness, the genuine hospitality and the hotel's other ammenities including the pool, breakfast room and the park-like setting in which it is set. Run by a family and a family-like staff, I was soon calling our hosts by their first name and every effort (and a few exceptions!) were made to help us feel at home. We will most definitely be back.

“Don't stay here!”

Complete dump! The sink is almost in bed with you, the TV cord keeps falling out of the outlet, the alarm clock needs to be plugged in across the room (no outlets by the beds) but that was useless because it didn't run anyway!

Needed to check out early because of emergency at home and was assured by desk clerk there would be no problem. When I contacted the owner to see why no refund, he stated "everyone has an emergency" and then hung up on me. I guess others want to get away from there, too.

Don't know where the photos on the web site are from, but they sure aren't the room we were in!!!

Room Tip: I don't think there are any

This specific guest made a reservation for a Holiday Weekend through a third party booking agent that has a set cancellation policy. The cancellation was not made within the terms of the policy nor did any immediate emergency seem apparent when guest made arrangements to check out. Guest did not indicate flaws at checkout, only after informed no refund would be granted, then she became verbally abusive and threatened to make trouble for us by submitting bad reviews.
