“Mary & Roger really go the extra mile!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 April 2011

The Red Horse Inn is a slice of heaven on earth in Landrum, SC - They have thought of every detail in their cottages & rooms and you won't have to ask for anything. The setting is absolutely stunning and more peaceful than you could ever imagine. Mary has such a kind, generous heart and truly wants her guests to have an experience, not just a vacation or a nights lodging. Definitely take her recommendations on dining as she knows the area very well and stays updated on feedback of restaurants from guests. We cannot wait to return!!

“Great place to just get away and be pampered!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 April 2011

Mary and Roger are fantastic- attention to detail was amazing! We loved the feeling of being in the middle of nowhere but yet town was just a few moments away. The food was excellent and we really felt like they made sure we had a wonderful time.

“Quiet, relaxing weekend”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 March 2011

My husband and I traveled to the Red Horse Inn to celebrate his birthday. The grounds were lovely and quiet, very peaceful. We rented the Springhouse cottage and thought it was quaint and charming. There was a small living room with a sofa and small t.v, kitchen, and a deck with a hot tub, which we really enjoyed. The view from the back was lovely and there was plenty of privacy.
We traveled into Landrum the first night for dinner, which was a short drive away. The next day we traveled to a beautiful waterfall and did some sightseeing. Mary gave us a list of attractions in the area and offered suggestions. Only if you want the package with all of the coupons is there a charge for the "activity packages." (a list of nearby attractions) We arranged to have massages in our room in the afternoon, which were very relaxing. The massages were good, but not the best we've had. We had dinner from the inn brought to our room that night, so it was wonderful not to have to leave our room! My scampi was great and plenty of it. My husband had the filet mignon, which was slightly overdone. His biggest complaint was the scalloped potatoes, which he swore tasted just like Betty Crocker. He was rather disappointed with his meal.
We really enjoyed our weekend here and would definitely return. It is a beautiful setting and we loved the peace and serenity of it all. It was so nice to get away and have some down time.
Not to be too picky, but I will point out a few things that we noticed which could be improved upon. First, the window boxes of our cottage had some plastic flowers in them, and the real ones left in them were dead and needed to be removed. Silk rose petals were strewn on our bed when we arrived; nice, but we would say to just skip it if real ones can't be used. I also read several reviews which mentioned the uncomfortable furniture and I must agree. There are two chairs in front of the fireplace which would be great for snuggling in with a good book, but they are not at all comfortable. Chairs in front of the fire should be cozy, not hard wingbacks. Also, the breakfast was not at all memorable. There was a basket in our fridge with packets of grits and oatmeal and some store bought, packaged muffins. We also had some grapes with granola and creme fraiche, which was the best of the breakfast items. My husband nor myself are big breakfast eaters, so this was not such a big deal to us, but I can certainly see where it would be to others.
As I said, we had a wonderful weekend, thought the inn was lovely, and would return. We did not have lots of contact with the owners, but when we did they were pleasant and helpful. A great birthday getaway!

“Charming, elegant, quiet, away from it all and welcome...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 February 2011

We were in awe from the moment we drove up to the place. Roger met us at the door and showed us to our rooms. Both of our rooms were elegant and cosy. The rooms were very comfortable and clean. Mary was very helpful the next day giving us ideas on where to hike (we went to Caesar's Head State Park) and where to eat. This is a high class, elegant, welcome inn with lots to do in the area. There are plenty of restaurants to choose from in the area (actually a surprising number for such a small town). The inn is very peaceful and if you just wanted to get away from it all, you could literally just stay there the whole time. Mary and Roger make you feel extremely welcome and safe. It was beyond expectation and very well-valued. As an aside, try Dmitri's your first night for casual greek italian (Dmitri comes around to your table and seems to know all the regulars) and then venture into Landrum for the other nights.

“Perfect Place for a Peaceful, Relaxing Experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 February 2011

My husband and I usually go somewhere special for Valentine's weekend each year and we found the perfect place at The Red Horse Inn! Mary and Roger have created an incredible experience and their service is impeccable! From before we even arrived, Mary covered every detail. The location seems to be off the beaten path, but is actually easy to get to and very convenient for so many adventures. Located just off I-26, you can easily get to Lake Lure, Chimney Rock, Table Rock, Greenville/Spartanburg and there are many great restaurants nearby. We went to Persimmons in downtown Landrum and thoroughly enjoyed it, then Dimitri's (Greek) Restaurant for lunch as well as The Junction - and all are close to The Red Horse Inn.

For our special weekend, we had the Valentine's package complete with roses, champagne, chocolate covered strawberries and dinner brought to our room one night.
We stayed in the Grainary Cottage which is beautifully decorated with sayings about love inscribed on all the bedroom walls. It is well worth the investment for the time you will spend. One of the best differences about The Red Horse Inn compared to other B&Bs or Inns is that you do not have to get dressed up to go to breakfast. They provide a wonderful breakfast for you in your room. The food was all delicious.

There is a hot tub on the back porch (in this particular cottage) with beautiful views of the mountains behind the cottage. The peaceful surroundings ensure you will have a relaxing experience. We will definitely go back!
