This was our 2nd time to Hilton Head! We opted to stay at the Monarch since the Marriott Barony Beach was undergoing renovations. We made an excellent choice! The Monarch is an older property but our unit was updated and found it to be very nice! The location in Sea Pines is great! We rented bikes for the week at an off site place (a bit cheaper) & they do delivery & pick up at the resort. The bike trails at Sea Pines are wonderful & you can easily get to South Beach or Harbor Town within 20 minutes of biking. We went to the island in March where it was still nice, not crowded, and temps were perfect. We participated in some of the activities that the resort offered, pool tournament, ping pong tournament, trivia contests! All the units have nice balconies, we had a first floor unit so we had steps that we were able to walk down & not have to go thru the front door. We cooked out one evening in the grill area...very nice grills! The beach is a short walking distance and liked the fact that this resort is on the beach. Monarch had 2 swimming pools..one was freezing cold & one was extremely hot so that was one downfall. We advised maintenance & one of the pools got fixed within a couple days. The water in the ocean is cold and although, the temps were in the 70/80's, it was still chilly and only got up to my knees. On this trip, we ended up buying into Marriott's Vacation club and am looking at making another trip to Hilton Head in the fall...hear the fishing is good that time of the year. We did go out on a fishing trip out of South Beach this time but it wasn't a good fishing day. The resort had plenty of things to do..our favorite was the corn toss! There is no restaurant on site but there is plenty of places to go within Sea Pines. ...Giuseppi's pizza-a must! Salty Dog Cafe is also a big tourist stop! The resort did not have tennis courts on site but we did have access to the Sea Pines Racquet Club. Lot of beatiful golf courses on Sea Pines if you like to golf. Hilton Head is a quiet island so if you're looking for action, this is not the place to go! We came here to unwind & relax & it was perfect! The bedrooms were spacious...only wished that the 2nd bedroom had 2 queen beds vs. 2 twin beds. Master bedroom had a huge jacuzzi but never used it! We did use the hot tubs at the resort! I liked the rocking chairs that were available to use & there were lots of herons & wildlife in the resort area! We will come back here again!
