“Perfect quiet family place”

We checked in at the Harbortown Yacht Club which was quick and easy. We had condo #586 which had a view of the canal in back and the pool and tennis court. The canal was a "hangout" for "hunters", so everyday we were upclose and personal with beautiful critters....herons, egrets, hawks, gators, etc. I made a video of the Spicebush resident alligator, "Ernie the Alligator"....go to youtube and then type in Ernie the Alligator. If you stay at Spicebush, you WILL see Ernie....we saw him everyday. For people like us (Californians), that was amazingly cool.

Master suite was upstairs and very large and beautiful. The 2nd bedroom had 2 twins which was perfect for our 2 teens. This place had a total of 3 tv's and the wireless internet access was perfect. We called the local bike shop right away and they delivered 4 bikes to our condo. The bikes come with a basket on front, so we rode our bikes to restaurants, the beach, golf (we rented clubs), kayaking, and shopping.

Here's some "mom" info: The kitchen "bar" seated 4 and was next to the dining table which seated 6 and was next to a sliding glass door with an outside table for 4, so we could have a pizza party with other relatives and easily seat 14, not including the living room furniture. They also have 2 gas BBQ's on the canal with a picnic table.

The 2 bathrooms only came with 4 bathtowels each. Not enough for water people like us. For $15.00 they will deliver another full set of 4 (bathtowels, handtowels, washcloths, floor mat), so I spent $30.00 and ordered 2 of those so we never had a towel problem.

I went shopping at the Publix the first day and had to buy Dawn dishwashing soap and trash bags for the kitchen trash can and paper towels (they only provide one roll). They DO provide soap for the dishwasher.

It you like the crowds and cramped spaces of typical Marriotts, then this is NOT the place for you!

Don't forget to take a short trip to Dafuskie Island...rent golf carts and tour this fascinating island featured in Pat Conroy's fantastic book: "The Water is Wide".

P.S. If you fly into Savannah and have never been there before, take the 2 hour walking tour with "Savannah Dan". Even our teens loved it! He's an ex-Savannah cop and a hoot!

“Wonderful stay, would go again”

We went with another couple and there was plenty of room for us (2 br, 2 ba). Units are older, but fairly well maintained. Not fancy or plush, but we found it comfortable. Sofa was the biggest negative (springs were shot). Full kitchen was nicely equipped, except for lack of dish soap. We liked the location very much, although the walking route to the beach was a little complicated (biking there was much easier). Service from front desk was excellent. We hope to go back in the spring!

“Good location, units need updating”

We stayed there on a trade through our timeshare company. Unit was clean, except the carpet was worn and dirty. The walls were beat up and needed painting. Things just were not in good shape. Appliances worked fine. Units not overly large, but the 2 BR was fine for 4 adults.Grounds were kept well. There is a pond with gators and turtles which were interesting.Pool looked clean but I don't think anyone used it the week we were there. No hot tub.The location in Sea Pines was nice. It was about 1/2 mile from the Beach Club. Beach was nice, with an outdoor bar and restaurant and live music on the weekend.
I think the weekly rental would have been less than I paid in maintainence fees plus the trading charge. For that reason I would not stay there again. But if you got a really cheap rental, it would be fine. It was certainly clean, except for the carpet.

“Great Location!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 September 2008

Spicebush is a timeshare property located within walking distance of the beach. The bike path is adjacent to the property. We had a lovely view of the lagoon where two alligators and several turtles lived. The property also has a swimming pool and a tennis court. The units consist of two bedrooms - one with a king bed, the other with two twins - two full bathrooms, living room/dining room, as well as a full kitchen which included a washer and dryer. A couple of negatives: We requested a wake-up call for our last day, a service mentioned in the folder that comes with the unit. However, we never did receive the wake-up call. Fortunately, there were two alarm clocks which we set in order to make sure we got up in time to catch our flight from Savannah. Some of the forks and cups were very dirty. I recommend that you check the cleanliness of any items that you might want to use. The kitchen has a dishwasher so I placed about 8 cups and several forks in it just after arriving. Overall, we had a most comfortable stay. We love Sea Pines and Spicebush
is ideally located.
