“Quiet at Christmas”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 December 2011

We arrived after dark and had some difficulty finding the place. The unit had a cute lay out and was recently refurbished. However, it could use a little more work, particularly the master bath area on the third level. The cabinet looked like it was painted over by a five-year old, as was the door to the toilet area. The door to the bedroom could not close completely without pulling it shut. The toilet/shower area was very unappealing and the toilet seat actually had been spackled over in spots (or something) instead of replaced and looked gross. Also, the bedspread did not look particularly clean. The kitchen was fairly well equipped but had no dishwashing soap.

We brought our three grandsons with us and there was not much for kids to do at this time of year.

“Comfort, convenience and a great location”

We have been to Spicebush at least 6 times, most recently as an owner and we have to say that the recent unit enhancements looked great. New furniture in the living area, painting and curtains along with the previous kitchen updates have really spruced the units up. As previous reviewers have commented, the units are older, but have been well maintained.

The pool, while small, is the perfect size for the # of units and is in a beautiful setting surrounded by Palm Trees. The grills were recently replaced and are in great condition.

You can't beat the Sea Pines location as you are close to both South Beach and Harbortown either by bike or car. You are also very close to both of the Sea Pines beaches with facilities.

While some may complain about the 3 level living, it makes for a great separation if you have a large group. The deck is a great outdoor environment to enjoy the natural settings that surround Spicebush.

Given all the above, we continue to be amazed at the value of these units as an owner.

“Amazing vacation spot, perfect for family relaxation!”

We stayed at Spicebush for 7 days, and it was the most relaxing time we have ever had on a vacation. The condos are beautiful. They are tucked into nature, with pure untouched scenery. We felt like we had been dropped off in some sort of tropical paradise. The view from the back deck was fabulous - water, trees and wildlife. The living room area was spacious, with plenty of seating for the 6 of us. The kids got the room on the second floor, with two twin beds. There was more than enough room for both (9 & 14), and they had plenty of closet and dresser drawer space, so they felt very much at home - not like they were living out of suitcases. The bathroom wasn't anything fancy, but did the job. The third floor bedroom was given to my in-laws, and it was beautiful. The room was very large, with a queen sized bed. The windows let in lots of natural sun light. There was a large garden tub, with a huge sunlight above it. The kitchen was perfect and equipped with everything we needed. There was a large dining table, and a table outside that was perfect for early morning reading and coffee. The pool was very nice, and not crowded at all. The Beach Club was a 2 minute drive from our condo. Many popular eateries were also close to home, making it easy to come and go without being gone for a very long time. Our favorite thing about staying at Spicebush was this - WE WERE LEFT ALONE. No phone calls. No pushy sales people. No special offers. NOTHING. Check in was a breeze, and the only thing we had to do before we left was run the dishwasher. This stay was so wonderful, our children said they never want to go anywhere else ever again! We are a typical middle class family, and were honestly worried about "fitting in" while on Hilton Head Island. I can honestly say that we were quite pleased with the friendliness of the people of Hilton Head. We were made to feel at home!

“Comfortable - Quiet - Spacious”

We stayed a week at Spicebush in Sea Pines and had a great time. The condos are older but well kept and well maintained. This would be a great place for a family since it has three levels, one for the living area and two bedrooms on two separate levels, one with twin beds and one with a king, and separate bathrooms. The couch in the large living area folds out for additional sleeping.

There is a well stocked and well equipped galley kitchen with small appliances and a dishwasher and has both a breakfast bar and a six chair table and a large deck with a table and chairs. There is a small pool and two tennis courts. It is not on the beach, but is less than a 10 minute walk to the ocean.

“Perfect quiet family place”

We checked in at the Harbortown Yacht Club which was quick and easy. We had condo #586 which had a view of the canal in back and the pool and tennis court. The canal was a "hangout" for "hunters", so everyday we were upclose and personal with beautiful critters....herons, egrets, hawks, gators, etc. I made a video of the Spicebush resident alligator, "Ernie the Alligator"....go to youtube and then type in Ernie the Alligator. If you stay at Spicebush, you WILL see Ernie....we saw him everyday. For people like us (Californians), that was amazingly cool.

Master suite was upstairs and very large and beautiful. The 2nd bedroom had 2 twins which was perfect for our 2 teens. This place had a total of 3 tv's and the wireless internet access was perfect. We called the local bike shop right away and they delivered 4 bikes to our condo. The bikes come with a basket on front, so we rode our bikes to restaurants, the beach, golf (we rented clubs), kayaking, and shopping.

Here's some "mom" info: The kitchen "bar" seated 4 and was next to the dining table which seated 6 and was next to a sliding glass door with an outside table for 4, so we could have a pizza party with other relatives and easily seat 14, not including the living room furniture. They also have 2 gas BBQ's on the canal with a picnic table.

The 2 bathrooms only came with 4 bathtowels each. Not enough for water people like us. For $15.00 they will deliver another full set of 4 (bathtowels, handtowels, washcloths, floor mat), so I spent $30.00 and ordered 2 of those so we never had a towel problem.

I went shopping at the Publix the first day and had to buy Dawn dishwashing soap and trash bags for the kitchen trash can and paper towels (they only provide one roll). They DO provide soap for the dishwasher.

It you like the crowds and cramped spaces of typical Marriotts, then this is NOT the place for you!

Don't forget to take a short trip to Dafuskie Island...rent golf carts and tour this fascinating island featured in Pat Conroy's fantastic book: "The Water is Wide".

P.S. If you fly into Savannah and have never been there before, take the 2 hour walking tour with "Savannah Dan". Even our teens loved it! He's an ex-Savannah cop and a hoot!
