We checked in at the Harbortown Yacht Club which was quick and easy. We had condo #586 which had a view of the canal in back and the pool and tennis court. The canal was a "hangout" for "hunters", so everyday we were upclose and personal with beautiful critters....herons, egrets, hawks, gators, etc. I made a video of the Spicebush resident alligator, "Ernie the Alligator"....go to youtube and then type in Ernie the Alligator. If you stay at Spicebush, you WILL see Ernie....we saw him everyday. For people like us (Californians), that was amazingly cool.
Master suite was upstairs and very large and beautiful. The 2nd bedroom had 2 twins which was perfect for our 2 teens. This place had a total of 3 tv's and the wireless internet access was perfect. We called the local bike shop right away and they delivered 4 bikes to our condo. The bikes come with a basket on front, so we rode our bikes to restaurants, the beach, golf (we rented clubs), kayaking, and shopping.
Here's some "mom" info: The kitchen "bar" seated 4 and was next to the dining table which seated 6 and was next to a sliding glass door with an outside table for 4, so we could have a pizza party with other relatives and easily seat 14, not including the living room furniture. They also have 2 gas BBQ's on the canal with a picnic table.
The 2 bathrooms only came with 4 bathtowels each. Not enough for water people like us. For $15.00 they will deliver another full set of 4 (bathtowels, handtowels, washcloths, floor mat), so I spent $30.00 and ordered 2 of those so we never had a towel problem.
I went shopping at the Publix the first day and had to buy Dawn dishwashing soap and trash bags for the kitchen trash can and paper towels (they only provide one roll). They DO provide soap for the dishwasher.
It you like the crowds and cramped spaces of typical Marriotts, then this is NOT the place for you!
Don't forget to take a short trip to Dafuskie Island...rent golf carts and tour this fascinating island featured in Pat Conroy's fantastic book: "The Water is Wide".
P.S. If you fly into Savannah and have never been there before, take the 2 hour walking tour with "Savannah Dan". Even our teens loved it! He's an ex-Savannah cop and a hoot!
