This is the first time I have ever stayed in a Residence Inn. I booked a two-room suite for my family due to getting a 25 percent discount from Expedia on the room. I am writing this review while I am still in the hotel.
The trip to Columbia had been tiring and it was so nice to see the front desk clerk with a smile on his face. He was friendly and courteous and checked us in quickly.
When we got to our room, I was pleased to see a very nice living room area and full kitchen. Everything is extremely clean. There is a television in both bedrooms and the living room, which is fabulous. Our family never seems to be able to agree on what to watch and this solves the problem.
The two bedrooms and two bathrooms really give this hotel a "homey" feeling. The beds are so comfortable!
The only downside (if you want to call it that) would be that the living room area is dark. However, they have plenty of lamps around to alleviate this problem.
I know some people worry about their safety when they go to a hotel. Of course, this is a reasonable concern. However, I have not felt at all unsafe walking around this hotel at night. The hotel appears to be in a safe neighborhood. I do not see anyone hanging around in the parking lot. It is very quiet here.
This is an excellent hotel and I would have no problem recommending it to anyone--especially to families who want to save money by eating in.

My family stayed here for my nieces graduation from Fort Jackson. The suite was wonderful and the beds perfect. I never heard any noise from outside or other rooms....very peaceful. The breakfast was nicer than most with eggs, yogurt, cereal.... The reception in the evening was wonderful. The woman who sets it up was soooo helpful, very concerned that you have everything you need. The complimentary beer and wine is a nice touch. We had a large group of 10, and it was nice to be able to spend time together over food and a drink in a very relaxed atmosphere. I would stay here again next time we visit Columbia.

Full kitchen is a grey benefit! Full breakfast is a great perk. Location is right off of the highway with lots of restraints close by.

Just finished a 5-night business trip to the Columbia area, staying at the Residence Inn off 555 and I-77. Extremely pleased and would definitely return! Good location, easy access to highway, and plenty of dining choices within a short (5-10 minute) drive.

Queen suite room was very comfortable. Bed was soft and welcoming, with 5 pillows provided. A/C and heat well controlled, with minimal noise. Fast and easy Wifi connection, nice (and new looking) kitchen set up. Bathroom was clean and well maintained, with plenty of hot water and soft towels.

Service was excellent too, everyone took the time to say "good morning" or "how are you". Breakfast provided is very good, nice selection of warm foods (eggs, sausage, french toast, etc), cold cereals, fruit, breads and pastries. Dining staff particularly set the tone, with lots of smiles and encouragement to enjoy yourself - even take a plate or drink back to your room for later if desired. Evening receptions also great, nice selection of beverages and snacks.

As others have noted, there is a train that goes by at various hours. I've noticed it throughout my trip, and not just at the hotel. I was awaked by it once, and was quickly back to sleep anyway, so not a problem for me - but if you are a light sleeper, definitely consider this. Otherwise, I have absolutely no qualms in recommending this hotel.
