Park on either end of the bridge and take a hike, literally! Best spot is in Patriot's Point in Mount Pleasant and then give a brisk walk forward to the crest of the span. You will see Charleston to the south and the Maritime Museum to the north. Seeing the USS Yorktown and other exhibits down below is awesome! Not to be missed if the weather and time allow!

“A Beautiful Jewel for the Cooper River”

This beautiful bridge spans the Cooper River connecting Charleston with Mt Pleasant and beyond. It has a walkway and we were surprised at ow many people were walking and even jogging across this 2+ Mile span! The traffic on US-17 was very manageable and we were able to easily travel from our hotel on Mt Pleasant to downtown Charleston with no difficulty (Note: We waited until after the morning traffic hours, so I cannot comment on what it's like during the morning rush). We saw the bridge also from USS Yorktown and Patriot's Point Park and later from the ferry to Ft Sumter. We did not see it lit up at night but from photos, I know that is beautiful as well.

Views over Charleston and the river. Having pedestrian access is a great feature of this bridge.

Walked about halfway across, great views of the city and nearby area. Very windy though, dress warmly.
