I love this place. it felt homey to me and comfortable. I liked the area the most.

We took the ferry from the Narragansett area (2 people and car, about $80 each way) and got a little turned around trying to find the place. IMR seems to be a renovated motor court type hotel; there are 1 bedroom and studio options in 2 buildings. A very nice family is managing the property, and they do a wonderful job with hospitality, attention to detail, and quick response to requests.
We stayed in a studio with a Murphy Bed, a pull out sofa, decently equipped basic kitchen and immaculate bath. There was a covered front porch with chairs; a nice place to sit and read, or watch the fog roll in. Honestly, no view at the property...get in your car or your scooter or bike and go see the island! You can easily walk to Old Harbor and the shops/dining options there.
We loved the north end of the island and the beach there, and stopped at a bar-restaurant at New Harbor for drinks and sunset.
Gas grills were great; we shopped for food at the Stop and Shop in Narragansett (a few miles inland from the ferry.)Very good store (Giant Food in the MD/VA/DC) area. The appliances at IMR worked very well, and the kitchen was nicely equipped.
We really enjoyed the quiet at this property; no screaming kids, no parties, just nice folk and what appears to be a unique offering on the island. Since we only had 48 hours on Block Island, and it was very foggy for most of it, we would make the effort to go back and finish exploring.
ver y small uncomfortable bed no air conditioning. stayed here for a timeshare exchange .was the worst timeshare ever glad i didnt own here.
We stayed 4 days in Aug. We were the last ferry to make it over before the cancelled ferrys for 2 days, It was rainy and windy for most of our stay, But we had a great tiem. Island Manor was a very nice place to stay, Clean and friendly place. Close to down town so we sould walk and far enough away so it was quite.
I would recommend this hotel and would stay there again
The Island Manor Resort is conveniently located, is well maintained and is a good value. I traveled with children <5 years old. I'd stay at the IMR again and would recommend it to other travelers. In reality the Island Manor Resort is a motel but a nice motel with a bit of charm.
The Good: The IMR is a 3-5 minute walk to all of the restaurants and shops in town and to the ferry. It is a 3 minute walk to the beach and to the grocery store (notably more expensive than the mainland but not as shockingly expensive as some people had warned). Sharky's, a restaurant, is a good choice for dinner and close too. Three Sisters serves good sandwiches, soups and salads for lunch and is right around the corner. The Red Bird Package Store (liquor store...I'm not sure how widely used "package store" is outside of New England) is a short walk. The bagel shop at the Old Post Office is next door to Sharky's and will meet your breakfast needs. Other good dining options that we found were Froozie's for a quick breakfast bite, Aldo's for breakfast, The Oars for dinner (nice waterfront setting on the Great Salt Pond and a good place to grab a drink too) and Harry's Block Island (excellent, interesting food and a diverse menu). Outside dining options abound. We brought our car this time but, most likely, would not during future visits even with the kids.
The IMR is well maintained and our room, a studio, was very clean. The full sized fridge, microwave and kitchen sink were useful. There are two buildings and the one facing the lawn is preferable to the one facing the parking lot. Both are close to the road but road noise was not a problem at all. The playground was a nice surprise offering a few swings, a slide and some monkey bars. The mostly fenced in lawn in front of one unit provided a small level of added comfort while the kids were running around. There were some beach chairs, boogie boards and beach toys for use on a first come basis.
The general managers at the IMR are a husband and wife. We dealt mostly with Tatiana. She was very nice and helpful providing several suggestions that made our visit to Block Island more enjoyable. The price that we paid for the room could not be beat. It was a great value.
The Not So Good: My wife noted that the carpet in the room felt damp and that the room smelled moist. I suspect most rooms on Block Island (nothing is really that far from the water at any location) suffer from a similar dampness. Ultimately, it was not a major problem. The wood paneling on the walls and some of the furniture gave the room a dated feel. It didn't appear worn or threadbare just dated. The towel exchange is only once a week which could be an issue for some people (an honor system drop off/pick up would solve this problem in my mind). There isn't daily maid service which could also pose a problem for some. Block Island offers so much to do that if you're hanging out in your room (assuming that it isn't pouring rain) then most likely you're missing an opportunity for having some fun.
The Bottom Line: The IMR isn't fancy and you're not going to be pampered but it is a great value, well located, clean and the managers are very nice and helpful. It is a good choice for those traveling with young children. I would stay at the Island Manor Resort again.
