Like others have said, the hotel location is perfect! Just steps from the Ferry, shops and restaurants on Block Island. While the hotels is very old and the accommodations are very basic, it is still very nice and just feels right. The history of Block Island and the hotel is very interesting. My husband and I had dinner at the hotel on the front porch, it was very good and the view was awesome! Can't wait to go back!

The location of this hotel is wonderful -- a few yards from the main dock and a few minutes away from the island's secondary dockyard. The hotel looks wonderful. It is steeped in history and there are wonderful black and white period photographs throughout. It is also in a very popular quaint area with lots of souvenir, boutiques and sporting and food shops within a few blocks. The food is awesome and service is excellent. The is no elevator and no A/C. (I can live without an elevator but this may encumber people with health challenges.) The rooms are small and some furniture,fixtures and carpeting could use replacement. Perhaps this is all part of the "old quaint New England charm?" I am new to vacationing in the region. Block Island itself is a wonderful fisherman's paradise -- very clean, friendly and quaint.

My sister,myself, and our friend visited Block Island yesterday and Sunday. We stayed at the National Hotel overnight. The hotel is located in the perfect spot, across the street from the ferry landing. Since the hotel was built in the late 1880's there is no air conditioning or elevator. We stayed on the third floor which meant climbing up 54 steps. No problem for me, but for people who have trouble walking there is a landing with a chair to catch your breath every nine or so steps. Front desk people are nice and do try to accomodate people who prefer the first floor. We went as part of a group trip so the cost of our dinner was included. We pre-chose our dinner from a three entrees. Dinner was not impressive at all. The prices on the menu are expensive. Go to Mohegan Cafe instead. But definately stay at this beauty!

We just returned from our first trip to BI. The Ferry package was a great value. The hotel staff was friendly and helpful. Our room - queen corner on the 2nd floor was very nice. No complaints and we would be happy to stay at the National again.
