“Best place to stay if you're headed for Keswick Theatre!!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

My husband and I stayed here on March 29th, 2011. We were in town to see Thin Lizzy at the Keswick Theatre. The hotel's entrance is a little difficult to access, but worth the trouble. We stayed in a basic, "king" room, and it was very neat and clean, as was the entire hotel. This is a place that caters to the bussiness-class, but we felt very welcome. The front-desk staff are polite and talkative, and help man a small snack-bar where you can get chips, soda, and candy bars. This hotel offers a great hot breakfast, but at a cost of about $12. You're also a stone's throw from the beautiful Willow Grove Mall ("Google" it for images if you don't believe me). I would recommend this hotel and would stay there again.

“Don't Do It! Wait until the renovations are completed!”

I stayed at this property with my sister and my two toddlers (ages 2 and 3). Prior to our arrival, we received an email stating that this property was undergoing some renovations, but they should not be an inconvenience. What a major inconvenience! The lobby wasn't there. You had to walk around the side to some room to check in. Getting to the room was a creepy experience, but, that in itself wasn't an inconvenience until I got around to the other side of the hotel where my room was and could not get into the building because my key didn't work. I had to walk all the way around the hotel to get my card fixed before walking back around the building crossing my fingers that it would work the second time. The room was nice (on the renovated side). As a Marriott employee, I was able to take advantage of the discounted rate and that is what made it bearable. If at all possible, I believe that they should close that dilapidated looking side of the building and set up shop on the upgraded side.

“What a nightmare”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 November 2011

We had our daughter and son in law with a 4 month old and 3 year old staying for thanksgiving holiday because of storm damage to our house. I am platinum Marriott with 60 stays this year so far. With platinum I am usually able to get an upgrade to a suite if its available. I was quoted a rate of $ 219.00 for a suite but the regular rate of $ 179.00 not even a AAA rate. I just wanted somewhere close by where the kids could stay. They matched the free upgrade with some prodding. After checking daily rates they have gone down to $ 119.00 a night for a king and again by Marriott's platinum rules I get the upgrade for free until I guess the bean counters take that away. I was told later about some slight renovations were going on and was told we will not even notice them. That should have been my first clue. I have never paid this much for a room this year and have stayed at some wonderful full service Marriott's before. The construction was unblievable. I came to visit after work, no lobby, went in side door to huge boards blocking the first 6 inches of the door with no signage of pending doom. Walked thru lobby under construction wires hanging, glass and boards laying around, to get to their room. First night the kids had to put up with some unruly guests across the hallway. Smoking in the rooms, drinking and making much noise late into the evening. Breakfast which was given to us because of the mess was a war zone. Broken glass in the hallways and couches turned on the ends, just waiting to crush a 3 year old walking by. But my best for last. Received a call at work about the fumes in the room. My other daughter had to leave because of a headache. I went there to a unbelievable smell of either carpet glue or a solvent everywhere. Are you kidding me? Went to the front desk about getting moved to a different hotel, no problem but your rate is now $ 269.00 a night. I expected at least a free night for this mess and the same rate for the new hotel not much to ask in my opinion. Marriott forgot or does not care about platinum guests I guess. I asked if this hotel was a owned or a franchise Marriott because of problems with the franchise hotels. The service is usually better at the Marriott owned hotels. I deceded to give up my platinum next year and stay where hopefully a new hotel chain cares. Score one for the bean counters trying to save money.

Room Tip: Choose a different Chain of hotels

Dear Guest,

Thank you for taking the time to write concerning your stay at our hotel. I can assure you that we value our Platinum Level guests and the business they provide to Marriott hotels. I was happy to see that we were able to upgrade you to a Suite as you had requested in recognition of your Platinum status.

As you noted, we were under a complete hotel renovation during your visit. This renovation included all guest rooms and public areas. While we did our very best to block off the areas under renovation, due to the physical layout of our hotel, it was impossible to completely block out all areas. Please accept my apology over any inconvenience this may have caused your family. I am also pleased to let you know that all renovations have been completed and our rooms and lobby area look beautiful !

Once again, I apologize over the issues you encountered and hopefully you will give us another opportunity to provide you the very best in product and service.

Sincerely,

Al Jaskel - General Manager

“Great place to stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 October 2011

We stayed here because we were attending a wedding in the area and the bride and groom chose this hotel for their guests to stay. We had a great room. It was nice and clean and roomy. The hotel staff was very nice and accommodating. I was impressed to receive an email a few days before we arrived to welcome us. Everywhere we needed to be for the wedding was within 15 minutes of the hotel. There was a great sportsbar next to the hotel that everyone enjoyed. If we ever need to be in the area again, we will definitely remember this hotel.

“Good hotel in busy area”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 October 2011

My daughter and I stayed at this hotel for a Thursday and Friday night to attend a family wedding. The bride and groom had chosen this hotel as the place to stay and rented a shuttle bus to take guests back and forth to wedding/reception at the Manor House at Commonwealth. Hotel was bare bones - clean and comfortable, but no frills. Beds were tempurpedic which I enjoyed and my daughter hated. Just a matter of personal preference. Traffic was really horrendous on Friday night and the fabulous plan to have the shuttle bus make a few trips before the wedding failed miserably. Bus was only able to make one trip to get guests to the wedding on time, the rest of us arrived late because of the rush hour traffic.

Hotel is easy to spot from the turnpike exit, but difficult to get to if you follow GPS instructions. Hotel management was very accomodating and sent a few emails indicating some GPS units will send you to the wrong place and you should try to head to Home Depot. Home Depot was great, but the entrance to the hotel from the Home Depot lot was chained closed. Several more U turns and we arrived at the hotel. I am a Gold member of Marriott and usually am given choice rooms. We were given the room closest to the elevator which dinged all night and contributed to my daughter not sleeping well. Management said there weren't any other room available. There was only one mirror in the room which made it challenging for two women to get hair and make up done quickly. No mini-frig either.

We had the buffet breakfast on Saturday morning. It wasn't anything special.

We would stay here again for same reason - to be with the wedding group, but would choose a different hotel otherwise.
