I recently had the pleasure of staying at the Woodlands for an overnight "staycation" during the holidays. I currently live in the Washington DC area and travel to Wilkes Barre a lot to visit friends and family. Every trip home I try to stay one night at The Woodlands. Being a former employee of The Woodlands and a Wilkes Barre native, staying at the Woodlands feels like coming home. As soon as you open the front door, you are greeted by friendly staff who made check in a breeze. Because of the holiday, we decided to treat ourselves to the Bridal Suite. If these rooms are available, I highly recommend them!!! Probably one of the best rooms at the resort. It is located in the streamside section of the hotel. The room is equipt with a jacuzzi, unique bathroom (shower is a large stall with two shower heads), and your own private balcony, overlooking the stream (with waterfalls and ducks!). Also note the streamside is a bit of a walk through the hotel to get to, however the privacy and seclusion are worth it!

The hotel has several options for entertainment. We stayed on a Monday night, which is pretty quiet, but we prefer that. We went to Crescenzo's for dinner, grabbed a couple sandwiches and appetizers, which were great. Shogun, a japanese hibatchi style restaurant is also a favorite of ours and is right on property as well. Everyday of the week there is a happy hour at one of the bars. I believe Mondays are half price drinks at Crescenzo's.

Another reason I always choose The Woodlands- The Beds!!! Their beds are sooo comfortable and with the white linens and goosedown comforters, I always get a great night's sleep.

Also note- The hotel offers shuttle services to the casino less than a mile down the road. Mohegan Sun also has great happy hours and entertainment.

Woke up the next morning to a beautiful snowfall over the stream. Perfect ending to a perfect stay. Thank you to Melinda, Ross, Lorraine, and Dennis for all the hard work you do. The whole staff truly goes out of their way to make you feel like home!

When booking your rooms, question location. We stayed in a stream side room. It was the quiet side of the hotel but a very long walk to the ballroom. I guess this was better than being along the hall connected to the nightclub.

For its location to Mohegan Sun and its own nightlife, I'm sure it's fine. However, we had our toddler. I mentioned this when we booked for my nephew's wedding, but were given a small room on a corridor that connects a parking lot to some clubs. It was a runway for drunken louts and women of questionable employment. Sorry, just calling it like I saw it. To the management's credit, we were treated properly when we had to check out the following morning. The desk manager and the owner, with whom I followed up, were professional, understanding, and decent.

when planning our stay I had looked at the hotels in the area and found that this one looked to be the best deal. From all the information this one looked to be the best value and let me tell you we were not disappointed. There was enough things to do without even thinking of leaving the hotel. There were 2 fabulous restaurants where you should never leave hungry. We had dinner at the Shogun which over looked the river... how romantic.There were 2 bars with bands playing and at the executive lounge had a fire pit off to the side of the bar..very nice touch. The next morning we had a great breakfast and went for a nice walk out through the woods and down to the river.. The walk was almost like a hike, the trails went up the hill and back down and around with a great layout of the river. There is a large area picnic area there. The jacuzzi room was huge with the gym and swimming pool right there. The staff was very friendly and the hotel was beautiful. We were thrilled with our choice and plan on returning. The pictures make you think you are in the country much to my surprise the hotel is right in the middle of downtown.... minutes away from a Mohegan Sun Casino and a large mall with a thousand of other business and restaurants to choose from. I cant wait to see it in the fall with all the foliage and don't forget about the large deck overlooking the river ... beautiful. I wanted our stay to be special and memorable and it was....
