“Super nice staff, quiet room, and convenient shuttle”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

We booked online a little too close to our trip. We really wanted a room as close to UPMC as we could get since we were visiting some friends. The front desk staff was super accommodating about our cancelled flights and extra delays getting checked in. When we arrived at 3am, there was a loud throng of drunk guys in the lobby being managed by the nice security guard. The front desk lady (Kim) was very nice and put us up on the 7th floor (key access only) and we had a very quiet room. No breakfast is included but Panera is right inside the hotel. The water pressure in the shower in our 7th floor room was a heavy trickle at best and the decor of everything was a little outdated but the room was large and the bed was comfortable. Our 2nd morning, we asked about the shuttle and even though it normally runs on the hour, the nice shuttle driver agreed to take us right after she got back from her 10am run. So accommodating! Everyone was very nice and the service left me feeling like I would stay here again if there are no rooms in a closer hotel to our friends.

Room Tip: Ask for the 7th floor if you want a quiet room.

“Unless price is everything...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 January 2012

This hotel, all though centrally placed in Pittsburgh, was a bit of a disappointment. I had a lot of traffic noise outside my window as the hotel is close to some heavily used roads. Also the hotel clearly is over its peak in terms of quality of the rooms. The best I can say about it is that it is in a good location with regards to some of the hospitals and the university and the price was low.

Room Tip: Make sure you get a room away from the highway.

“Great value good location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 December 2011

This hotel is located near to several hospitals, and is also within walking distance of Southside Works/ Southside. The value is incredible compared with Downtown and Southside hotels. There is a Panera attached which is incredibly convenient. Our only issue is that the website we booked on advertised a refrigerator and we were given a room without one. We immediately addressed it with the front desk and were moved to the correct room on the 7th floor. It seems the website had it wrong, but they honored it. The decor is a little dated, but that is why you are paying less. Some people might be concerned about the neighborhood, but we weren't. We walked to Southside Works and felt safe, though it is a little secluded by topography. We took a cab back for less than $10, mostly because we don't think walking back late after bar hopping is a good idea.

Room Tip: rooms on the 7th floor have a special key for extra security, plus have refrigerators, microwaves, a...

“Great staff, average hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 November 2011

We were in town for a wedding and upon check in, the staff were very pleasant and welcoming. They let us know that a free shuttle was available and could easily take us to where we needed to go, no problem. The room was clean, but somewhat dated - no bells and whistles, necessarily. Much to their credit, they have "bedbug bags" on their beds and boxsprings, which is something that not all hotels have taken that extra step to provide for their customers. (I indirectly work in the field, so I'm aware of the issue - this isn't a reflection on the hotel!).
The one thing that we did have issue with, were the incredibly thin walls between rooms! Our "neighbors" came back to their room somewhat late and felt the need to chatter away, laugh quite loudly, etc. and we could hear every word that they were saying. It took my husband's pounding on the wall to get them to quite down. Very frustrating. The AC unit's cycling in the room also caused the both of us to have some difficulty falling asleep - probably coupled with our noisy neighbors! (The only reason I rated the sleep quality "not so great", was because of the super thin walls. The bed was really comfy and had it been quieter, I'm sure the sleep quality would've been much higher rated.)
The next morning, Kim at the front desk was very helpful and provided great information and directions to where we wanted to go - thanks again Kim!

I appreciate your kind words about Kim! I'm glad she was able to help you during your stay. I apologize about your noisy neighbors. Did you know we have overnight security? We could have taken care of the situation and saved you from having to bang on the wall. Also, I apologize about the noisy HVAC unit. If you call the hotel at 412-683-6100 x4134, and tell the room in which you stayed, I can have maintenance check it out so that it does not cause future problems. Thanks for staying with us and congratulations on the wedding!

“Great Customer Service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 November 2011

Stayed here for a Steelers game. Customer Service was great especially Emily. She went out of her way to help me and my boyfriend, as well as another group of people. You don't see that kind of hospitality anymore. Thank you again Emily!

The rooms were ok. Nothing special. You get what you pay for. It was clean and the bed was comfortable. The bathtub needed a good hard scrubbing, but I've seen worse. It was nice having a balcony, although ours overlooked the dumpster.
