“wonderful weekend”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

My partner and I were looking for somewhere to get away for our anniversary. Somewhere for just us after having our daughter a few months ago. 'Somewhere Unique' was the best decision. Everything was thought of and absolutely relaxing. We chose the pamper package and received a couples massage at the retreat. From the minute we walked through the door it was perfect! Everything was immaculate. The bathroom, was definitely divine, relaxing in the bath and looking out the window to the cliff. Everything that is described is what you get. Unfortunately words can not describe the retreat, it needs to be experienced.

Dear Michelle H

It’s wonderful to hear that you enjoyed a romantic break after the birth of your daughter. We have a two-year old son, and as rewarding as it is to be a parent, it is certainly important to spend quality time together as a couple.

Our in-house massages are very relaxing, and a wonderful way to round off your Hunter Valley getaway.

We look forward to welcoming you again soon.

“Gobsmackingly tranquil”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

My husband and I spent our honeymoon at Something Unique (Allawah retreat) for three nights in Jan 2012. What a delight!
The retreats are cleverly designed, beautifully furnished, gorgeously lit and immaculately clean.
The bed, bath and bikes all excellent. Its extremely spacious, private and well positioned to take advantage of the views.
We went out on the bikes a couple of times into town and nearby wineries. The roads and quiet and flat. Easy riding!
We went to Margan for lunch as part of our package. The food, wine and service were sensational. I would recommend a lunch time booking to take advantage of the scenic (40 min) drive. Plus, you wouldn't get to see the veggie garden or meet the chooks at night. Just a note, the lunch does not include alcohol.
Breakfast was included in our tariff and it was generous enough to last us 3 days. The BBQ dinner on the first night was again perfectly portioned and high quality.
If you are a greenie at heart then this place is for you. It is situated amongst nature and the owners have been very proactive about minimising the environmental impact of the retreats and their operations. Very inspiring to read through their environmental journey if you have the time (in the back of the manual they leave).
My husband and I have travelled the world over and never been so impressed. Apart from buying a tin of baked beans and a bottle of wine, the rate was all inclusive and compared to other places of similar quality was good value.
We never saw the owners (Melanie and Grant) however its obvious that they have put their heart, soul and a great deal of love into making this place beautiful. thank you for making ou honeymoon so unforgettable. We will look for any excuse to come back!

Room Tip: We had a sneaky peek and both retreats looked identical. Allawah is higher up and probably has a sli...

Dear tarkatheotter

Thank you for your very positive feedback! We are delighted to read you enjoyed your stay at Somewhere Unique, and that your honeymoon was so ‘unforgettable’.

Wonderful also to hear that all our hard work is so greatly appreciated - the bikes are lots of fun, and a great environmentally friendly way to tour around the local area. Margan is one of our favourite restaurants in the Hunter Valley, so it is great to hear you enjoyed your lunch and a wander around the garden.

As you commented, we don’t tend to meet our guests! We do our best to create a private, tranquil spot where guests can come and go as they please, although we are just at the end of the phone if needed.

We look forward to welcoming you again soon.

“Total Relaxation”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 January 2012

My Husband and I went away over the new year to get away from the hustle and bustle and celebrate my 30th Birthday. We were very impressed with 'Somewhere Unique', it is so peaceful and relaxing and the villa was finished to the highest standard.
When we arrived beautiful music was playing and it was so neat and tidy that it was like we were the 1st to have ever stayed there.
The huge bath for two was lovely and there are bikes there for you to use too, which were great fun and a great way to explore the surrounding area.
I would highly recommend staying here if you are after a romantic getaway with peace and tranquility. The Villas is just in the perfect location surrounded my trees and wildlife. Just Beautiful!

“Perfection in the Lower Hunter”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 January 2012

My partner and I chose to spend New Years somewhere quiet and relaxed this year and after seeing the reviews on TA we chose Somewhere Unique - Excellent choice!
We arrived from Sydney after finishing work and from the moment we stepped inside to soothing music and the amazing breakfast provisions (enough for 3 mornings!) we were impressed.

During our stay we made numerous comments about how the owners really had thought of everything. In a challenging industry the owners of Somewhere Unique really must be commended for providing somewhere that I am certain must please all.
With bikes provided you can ride into quaint and entertaining Wollombi, or explore the local wineries. Or if you wish to go further a field the Hunter Wine region is only 25 mins away. Close enough to enjoy (booked a tour with 2 Fat Blokes and had a great time) but far enough away to escape the crowds.

During our 3 nights we did not see the people staying at the other retreat or the owners, when they say private they mean it!
If you are looking for somewhere to escape to that is not far from Sydney and close to the Hunter I cannot recommend Somewhere Unique more..

Dear EM023

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience. It is wonderful to hear that your enjoyed your relaxing NYE getaway!

It is very rewarding to hear that all our little touches are appreciated - we work hard to provide our guests with a personalised service, although as you mention, you don’t even need to see us! I’m glad you enjoyed the private nature of the property.

The ‘Two Fat Blokes’ offer a number of great tours, highly recommended on TripAdvisor! They will collect our guests from the door of their retreat, for a fun day out tasting local wine and produce. Just make sure to book in advance.

Thank you for recommending our property to others. We look forward to welcoming you again soon.

“Amazing Getaway”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 January 2012

Somewhere Unique meets all expectations; loads of privacy, surrounding by beautiful views it is easy to think you are miles from civilisation. Only a 5 minute drive takes you to local shops - just make sure you know they are open, being a small town the dinner place closes early and cafes weren't open around 8.30 - 9am on the weekdays we were in town.
It's the small touches that puts Somewhere Unique ahead of other boutique locations such as the ipod docking station, amazing bath with more than enough room for two, the little soaps and oil burner extras were lovely, the kitchen is well equipped for those looking to do some cooking and the bed is huge and so incredibly comfortable.
Highly recommended for those looking for a first class, private getaway.

Dear Claire T

Thank you for your very kind review. It is terrific to hear that we met all your expectations, and that you enjoyed your visit to Wollombi.

As you mention, Wollombi is quite a small village, so shops and cafes don’t tend to open as long is in the city. There is information on our website about the opening hours of the local businesses, and also in the guest compendium in the retreats.

Great to hear that all the little touches were appreciated! We look forward to welcoming you again soon.
