Have stayed at the Star of the Sea previously and will very likely stay there again. The Hotel is about 5 minutes walk up a hill from the southern end of Terrigal town centre.
The Hotel is quite secure. Apartments are modern, stylish and spacious. The apartment had a full kitchen, a large living area and an east-facing balcony. Some apartments have north-facing balconies. The Hotel has 2 outdoor pools and an indoor pool. Also a tennis court and a snooker room. There is a small cafe next to one of the outdoor pools so you can have something to eat / drink while you supervise your children.
There are nice views facing north along the length of the beach which runs along Terrigal town centre. Some apartments have views facing north-east (ocean views) which are also nice. Our apartment was east-facing but we could also see the north-facing views from 2 bedrooms. Not sure if all apartments have good views. They probably do but I'm not certain.
The Hotel is close enough to the town centre so that you can walk down the hill to cafes and restaurants. There are enough places to choose from within walking distance.
I don't think the Star of the Sea has 24 hour Service so if you are used to large hotels where you can get food or other things you need even in the wee hours of the morning, you will need to be prepared as you won't be able to do that here.
The Star of the Sea is a lovely place to stay. It is quite expensive for families but would be more affordable for say 2 or 3 couples. Having said that, every time I have stayed, I have seen alot of children around.
Terrigal is close to Sydney so if I want to get out of the city but don't want to drive for 3 or 4 hours up the Coast, then Terrigal is a good option and the Star of the Sea is the best accommodation (and probably most expensive too) in the area.
