Sadly the reviewer below has some valid points. Eric does have a number of rules, but to be fair most of them are sensible ones. The extensive communal area is adjacent to the corridor leading to the guest rooms and as these only have sliding doors noise could easily become an issue. Eric's slightly abrupt germanic manner probably makes the rules seem more officious than they really are. Maybe the lovely Maita ought to introduce new guests to the facilities - they'd sound far more accessible coming from her.

At the end of the day the format works. Bedrooms are not large and the aforementioned sliding doors do not help to keep them quiet, but they are reasonably furnished and the shower rooms are quite adequate. The guests' dining area and kitchen is more spacious with a nice aspect over the pool which we did not use as it was winter. We had a more than adequate fridge area and the availabilty of free tea and coffee and a selection of drinks to buy at reasonable prices worked well. You can bring a takeaway back to eat if you don't want to splash out on a restaurant. The restaurants we ate at in town served good food, but lacked somewhat in atmosphere (especially the plastic dragon on a bare brick wall decorated Thai!). A nice touch is that Eric has a decent selection of wine bottles to buy if you're going to a BYO. The buffet breakfast was OK though there was little variety in the cooked meats on offer (ham or ham) and I'm sure the green mould on the underside of the margarine tub lid was just an oversight!

But to put all this into context the price was astonishingly good and it seems churlish to grumble when the value for money was so great.Nambucca Heads sits by some excellent beaches though the town itself is a little lacking in soul or history. A side trip inland to Bellingen and Dorrigo was a real treat.

We found Beilby's from the widely available New South Wales Bed and Breakfast guide which, we have since discovered, is comprised of reviews written by the proprietors. Beilby's is certainly reasonably priced, the rooms are very nice and the location excellent, but the overall experience is disappointing. One accepts that Band B is more intimate than staying in a hotel, after all this is someone's home, but Eric, the petty German proprietor virtually patrols the premises, monitoring everything one does, including checking the fridge every time one uses it and various "rules" such as only using the dishwasher for breakfast pots, not using the guest kitchen/dining room after nine, only using the washer before 6pm slowly irritate. And additional charges ($11Aus to use the washing machine, and Aus$4 for 30 minutes on the internet) soon mount up.
Our three day special was supposed to include a complimentary barbecue pack. We are still waiting for it. And the pool, which could be lovely, was dirty with no attempt made to remove a plethora of dead flies and insects throughout our three day stay.
This was the only poor experience we had in three weeks of wonderful Australian hospitality at a number of simply outstanding Band Bs.
