Arriving in the afternnon on a clear winters day gave us some wonderfull views of the sun setting on Mt Warning and surrounding Sprinbrook and Cougals and it only got better from there. The cottage was prewarmed as the fire was going and a loaf of freshly baked bread on the counter top. The view from the secluded porch up to Sprinbrook and The Cougals was only bettered by the view of Mt Warning from the bedroom and ensuite.

The bed was the most comfortable we have ever slept in, spa was deep and accomadated two people without knee bend, quite a few other touches made the stay very comfortable, like farm fresh eggs, a supply of DVD'S and music CD's.

When mentioning that we were going to explore the surrounding area Tracys suggestion of doing a ROUND THE MOUNTAIN trip which tooks to some little known places that were well worth the visit.

All in all an expecptional stay in a very well presented Cottage and nothing was a problem for the hosts Clive and Tracy

Room Tip: Were able to view all 3 and would be more than happy to stay in either one of them

“Fabulous views, comfy room, charming hosts - we'll be back!”

We stayed for a couple of days in the spa room and loved it. We like a quiet place to just recharge from our usual hustle and bustle - and this place was perfect!

The photos on their website don't do it justice, everything is better - it's simply gorgeous! Our room was in the main house, which is big enough to provide plenty of privacy. The room itself was spotlessly clean, had a comfy bed, a great spa, and everything we needed was supplied. We had our own private veranda so could read, relax and take in the stunning views. There's a guest lounge off the bedroom so that provides another area.

Breakfasts were delicious - good coffee, fresh bread, and eggs don't come any fresher than straight from the chook barn.

Our hosts, Clive and Tracey, were charming and friendly. They were available to give us good tips about the types of places we like to visit but also gave us as much space as we wanted.

This place has won some awards and there's a good reason why - it's great!!

Room Tip: Check out their own website for the best rates.

“Ticked a few boxes, will try other BandB,s next time.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 July 2011

We found the location very beautiful nestled in amongst the mountains, we stayed in the cottage so can not comment on the suites in the house.
The cottage was clean and from the rear tiled area we had a very nice view of the surrounding areas, the cottage decor is starting to age and the tiled floor in the living area makes it feel a little cold in the winter, DVD collection was ok with a few burnt cd,s etc.
The TV reception in the cottage is very poor even with the digital set top box we gave up trying to watch.
Bed was comfortable.
Kitchen has the standard gear required, the BBQ on the patio is very old and a good clean and a new one is warranted
The spa bath is deep and very comfortable, however the toiletries consisted of used shampoo and conditioner bottles like at home not 4 and a half star standard I think.
The fire is a cracker and hummed along nicely.

We were given yummy fresh baked bread on arrival and got the run down on local history.
You are not totally secluded in the cottage as there are stables adjacent that the owners use and conversations carry very easily with the tiled and paved areas as we were to find out, also I had just dosed off in the sun and was jolted awake by the residnet woofers that roam freely on the property, perhaps a dog proof fence to the cottage would fix this, they do warn you of the their dogs in the welcoming booklet.

By the feel of it they have been in the BandB game for a while and have had some curly guests in the cottage which is unfortunate , there are various examples they share in the welcoming booklet and signs in the cottage which we didnt find all that relaxing.

Thank you for your feedback and we're sorry that you didn't enjoy your stay as much as you might have if you'd had hotel toiletries etc.

On your advice, I have updated our cottage info book to read:

"You will notice that we don’t supply the usual “hotel” style of mini toiletries. One reason for this is that we are trying to reduce our carbon footprint by cutting down on packaging waste. More importantly, we find the contents of the commercial miniatures to be of inferior quality to the retail brands. In addition, the bottles are too small to be of much use to anyone with a decent head of hair, or who likes more than a few bubbles of soap to wash with - hence the full size bottles of shampoo, conditioner and shower gel."

Hopefully this will avoid any future confusion as to why we don't use commercial soaps etc.

Thank you for your dog fence idea - however the dogs have their own fenced garden at the back of our house and are only allowed out in the afternoons to "help" me feed the horses. This is actually for their own safety as they are very small and our valley is inhabited by several families of Sea Eagles and other raptors .. so the dogs wouldn't last very long at all if left to roam the property at will. However I do apologise that you were disturbed and we will take steps to ensure this doesn't happen in the future.

Unfortunately the intermittent TV reception problems are beyond our control. The transmission authorities have advised that they are aware of the problems as systems are switched over to HD and are fixing "one area at a time". Our region is scheduled for early next year. These intermittent problems currently affect the NBN stations which account for a small percentage of the channels available, but again, our apologies that this happened to you when you needed those stations.

I'm a little baffled by the "tired" comments with regard to decor as the cottage was only repainted 6 months ago - but if you would like to contact us directly and elucidate, we can take steps to rectify any problems. In fact if you had pointed out any problems on the feedback forms provided, they would have been taken care of already. I can assure you that the bbq is less than 2 years old and is scrubbed with soapy water and a scrubbing brush between each guest occupation. Perhaps we should include the gas bottle in this regime in the future, as that was the only grubby part of the bbq that I could spot.

Finally, I do apologise for the noisy B&B guest who was holding a loud conversation near your Cottage - I did try to steer him away from your area as quickly and gently as possible - as the disturbance lasted less than 10 minutes it didn't occur to me to disturb you further by apologising to you at the time - perhaps it should have.

“Beautiful, relaxing, secluded – stay here!”

Wonderful place, lovely hosts, lovely thoughtful touches everywhere. The accommodation was of a very high standard, the outdoor pool has a beautiful view. We stayed in the main house, but there is also a self-contained cottage at the back of the property that would be wonderful for a romantic break. Tips: you defiantly need your own car to drive the 20 min into the little town of Murwillumbah to eat in the evening. Don’t take for granted that things will be open late, check with the restaurants which days they are open, and how late. There are some lovely places to eat, but they don’t say open late, and some aren’t open on some days of the week. I believe you can also book in for half board at Hillcrest which would be worth doing as the food is excellent, and means you don’t have to drive into town. As you drive to Hillcrest, at the corner turning of Numinbah Rd and Upper Crystal Creek Rd there is some kind of miniature animal farm, we went in here as it also advertised itself as having a tea room. I would recommend giving that place a miss. The hosts at Hillcrest are happy to advise on places to eat in town. There are some beautiful national parks to walk nearby too, including Mount Warning, but leave enough time to get to the top and back before dark. Also when it rains – be prepared to drive over a few frogs/toads that come out.

We stayed in the main house Spa Suite for the wife's birthday surprise - read the reviews about the cottage but that was already booked and after chatting with very helpful and funny owner decided to give the bnb a go. Glad we did - I got browny points up the wazoo as she loved it. they put one of those silk heart things on the bed for her surprise adn the room was warm and cosy wehn we got there. Very swish but comfortable room - really the best nights sleep either of us had in a long time. Fantastic breaakky to. highly recommended for all special getaways or just for a bit of romance. one thing - google them and go to there own website as they do fantastic direct bookign discounts for last minute stays/
