We ended up here unexpectedly. We had intended staying with friends in a Victorian town near the Murray but floods were looming and we didn't want to get caught so travelled on to Hay where we arrived tired and broke and looking for a caravan park with cheap cabins or caravans, but we spotted this motel and its rates were lower than those in the town's caravan parks - or so it seemed. Initially, we were very hesitant as it was right on a highway where road-trains and trucks zoom through at all hours between Adelaide and Sydney. We mentioned these concerns and the moteliers listened sympathetically and said they'd give us a quiet room, still at the lowest price. We were still dubious but agreed to give it a go. We are so glad we did. We had a fabulous sleep, blocked off from the noise of traffic, just as the manager had assured us. The room was fairly basic but was comfy and very clean and had everything we wanted. A previous reviewer complained that the rooms were "outdated". I didn't notice, frankly, but then I don't have any hang-ups about the curtain patterns or carpet colourings, nor any fetishes about furniture fads. For crying out loud, if moteliers were constantly bringing their decor into line with the very latest trends, they'd have to charge heaps more for the rooms - not to mention the waste of resources. The stuff was not worn out, it was functional, comfy and clean. People wanting more than that will find accommodation elsewhere to suit them, usually at a much higher price of course. This suited me well and I'll happily stay there again next time I'm in Hay.
