Building - is an outstanding historical monument with soaring ceilings, magnificent high staircase that goes on forever and beautiful architectural features. Lived in splendour.
Accommodation is up a very tall flight of stairs.
Bedroom - Clean. Relatively large with antique wardrobe, chair, antique chest of drawers, fireplace, king bed, chair, no locks on doors. Nice classic style clean bed linens with beautiful crochet lace bedspread and selection of pillows. Window overlooks street (main street) and our car which was parked below which was a comfort. Bedside tables with lamps are convenient. Spare blanket in drawer. Luggage rack provided. Wonderful antique full length cheval mirror.
Bed - The King bed is two singles but it is soft and comfortable.
Provisions - Very beautiful bone china tea cups are provided for tea and coffee. 4 tea bags provided. Hostess popped a rose in a vase on the tea table at the last minute. Hostess put small jug of fresh milk in the fridge on our arrival.
Host - Friendly welcome from host Sally. Very helpful with suggestions on places to get takeaway food and a restaurant meal.
Bathroom - Big bathroom with spa, basin, toilet and shower. Circa early 1990's reno.
Common areas - Soft plush wool carpet underfoot.
Value - Good value at only $AU130 per night with breakfast.
TV - is old, small and poor quality and as it was the night of the royal wedding I had so hoped for better. It is located in the sitting room.
Sitting room - is filled with antique furniture and interesting original art but if you ever watched the Scottish TV series 'Monarch of the Glen' you will understand when I say it is far from pretentious as this house and furniture has been used long and well by human beings. The house is 'lived in' and far from a museum. Sitting room overlooks main street and verandah. Tourist information and magazines/books on table.
Climate control - would have been lovely to have an open fire. Oil heaters. A/C in bedroom.
Parking - out front of building in the street.
Stairs - very tall flight of stairs.
Pros - a unique experience and far more interesting than staying in a standard motel room
Cons - if another couple stay in second bedroom then sitting room and bathroom are shared facilities.
Suggestions - new TV definitely required.
