“a welcome spot”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 January 2010

We had travelled from Adelaide on a day when the temperature hovered around 41 degrees. Then there are the almost treeless plains north of the Murray - even the flies were taking shelter. Probably anywhere with airconditioning and cold water wold have been welcome after this. We did not expect much in an outback town, but the Saltbush was a pleasure - well above expectations. Clean, well-appointed, friendly family business, and, miraculously, free wifi internet.

“Hard to Fault the Saltbush Motor Inn”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 October 2009

We had two one night stays at the Saltbush in Sept/October 2009 Staying in the same family room on each occassion. Rated 4 stars the property is quite new and well furbished and fresh smelling without perfume as you would expect.

The family room is one large room with queen and two singles. It also has a small kitchenette area with full sized sink, crockery for four, a kettle and toaster. Microwave ovens can be obtained from reception.

We found we had an electric blanket on the queen but not the single beds during our stay, so if it's cold you might want to check about this when booking or immediately on check in. There is a guest laundry with powder supplied.

Saltbush provides free broadband access which we successfully accessed on both stops. When necessary cables are available from reception if for some reason you aren't able to connect through wireless. If you are travelling without a laptop there is an internet kiosk at reception for guest use.

Only real issue I had was that the bar fridge although new, was of a variety that the little freezer could not take my 2 litre milk bottle ice blocks. It was a very small freezer only capable of handling ice trays or one or two of those blue (and fairly useless) freezer blocks. I am no expert on bar fridges and what is currently on the market but this was the one flaw in an excellent new accommodation spot which otherwise seems to have thought of everything.

I booked directly with the motel and found them easy to deal with and efficient.
The location is right in the main street of Hay right in the "action" so to speak. Excellent food options within walking distance. We ate at Wok on Hay and were very impressed with the cleanliness of the place. They have a range of options, from thai, pizza, traditional hamburgers that looked good as we saw others getting them. You can eat in or take away and there is a big TV you can watch while you wait or eat. Handy when it's grand final night as it was when we where there.
I would say it is very hard to go past the Saltbush when staying a night or two in Hay which is a lovely little town with plenty of things to see and do both in town and in areas surrounding for a few relaxing days.

“Gorgeous, Fabulous”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 September 2009

This place is an oasis in the desert that is the Hay plains. Salt Bush offers all and more of the comforts you would expect from a city motel like the Stamford. We took our two very energetic boys who were well entertained with the pool. LOVED the home cooked yo-yo biscuits on arrival and the GORGEOUS managers and staff. Also just cannot spend enough money in the fabulous home and lifestyle shop Hayven. Will be back for more!

“One of the best places I 've stayed and I've stayed in a lot of places.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 September 2009

I recently went for a short ride on my Harley from Melbourne to Sydney the scenic way. I found myself going accross the Hay Plains about 7.30pm with a numb bum. I arrived a the Saltbush Motor Inn about 8.00pm to a very warm welcome from Gary one of the owner.I was on a $40,000 motor cycle and was worried about where to park it so Gary showed me a place I could lock it up and it could not be more secure which put my mind at ease. I found the room peaceful and very comfortable and would highly recomend this wonderful place to anyone. The service was great and I will stay there whenever I get the chance in my travels. Great work Saltbush keep it up and you will always be booked out. Thanks heaps Brett Rayner.

“Relief at the end of a long long drive”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 August 2009

What a fabulous place to stay. Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine that we would come across such a warm welcoming oasis in out back and I mean outback NSW.
Elle & Gary are wonderful host and made us feel like family. The rooms are spaciouse and well set up and the pillows are sooooo comfortable. Everything was great after such a long drive in the car. We felt well rested for the journey ahead.
Ohh by the way make sure you take the time to visit Hayven.... a wonderful little shop attached to the motel its full of fantastic little trinkets and great clothing for the ladies. I may even make a special trip to Hay just to do a little shopping once again.
