On route to Newcastle my daughter and I stopped overnight at Hay after a 3/4 day of driving in near 40C (around 104F). The very friendly hosts directed us to their lovely saltwater pool, what a wonderful tonic! I actually earmarked this place, as I checked images online of the hotel pools, and this looked the nicest! (I knew we would be traveling in very hot weather!)
The hotel is in the main street, and is very new, so the decor was not the usual hospital/nursing home bedspreads and curtains. It was quite tasteful and spotless! Very comfortable mattress, too.
We also lashed out and got a spa room, which was perfect at the end of the day.
The hosts were very helpful, and directed us to the best place (Jolly Jumbuck Bistro) to eat in town. I learnt this as the locals I met there
all said they wouldn't eat elsewhere, and I can honestly say my steak was the best I can remember! The locals were justifiably proud of their town and spoke of 'the new hotel', and how lovely it was as they had been there when they had friends staying.
The only drawback for me was the wireless broadband connection. It was free (fantastic), but signal was so weak from my room I could connect, but not download anything. Having said that, they had pc/internet access in their reception area.
We would stay again, for longer next time!
