Watermark at Wategos is just a beautiful place to stay, simply breathtaking. The beach is one of the best in Australia. The rooms are private and very comfortable with a real touch of class. I want to revisit and highly recommend to anyone that enjoys quality.

We stayed in one of the beachfront suites and were really happy with the Watermark, check-in was easy and the room was very clean and nicely presented. Plus you cant beat the location!

My only criticism (and this is really grasping at straws!) was that the room was smaller than what I was expecting.

I would definitely recommend this place, it's beautiful!

We stayed 5 nights at Watermark in the upstairs Oceanview apartment last week to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The view and outlook are just as stunning as on the website. The bedroom furnishings have been updated since the website photo and are even better.
The building comprises of a private residence with the two room Oceanview apartment upstairs and directly underneath are the 2 bedsit beach apartments. I agree with a previous comment just as well to spend $500 per night and have the extra room upstairs than $400 for the smaller ones downstairs with much less view.
The Oceanview apartment is beautifully designed and furnished in a smart and modern style. The kitchen is very functional and well equipped. You do need to hire a car at Ballina airport when you arrive. It is quite inexpensive and essential for getting back into Bryon to stock up the kitchen with some food provisions. The microwave does have convection oven ability, but who needs to cook in an oven on a holiday! The car was great for driving up to the hinterland on those rainy days and discovering some great lunch cafes in Bangalow and the Eltham Valley Pantry. When the weather is fine, the beach right there is magnificent and we highly recommend the walk up to the lighthouse and headland.
The downside of staying there was that we had to walk out on the road (sometimes in the rain) from the car park to our apartment to avoid walking past the beach units which were occupied. We were told to do this on arrival but felt we had to as well, to allow these guests privacy as their front glass doors opened completely. Also ihe iPod playing device needed to be upgraded so that it charged when you played it, instead of running down.
Otherwise it is a most beautiful holiday apartment, fabulous views and very peaceful.

I surprised my partner with a surpise weekend getaway to Byron Bay and spent quite some time looking for the perfect spot. I am pleased to say that I was extremely happy with the Watermark. The location is perfect, right opposite the beach. There are 3 apartments to choose from, 2 studio apartments on the ground floor and 1 ocean front apartment on the second floor. We stayed in the ocean view apartment which is defintely the pick of the three as it has spectacular views and is more spacious. Given this is an apartment and not a hotel, it doesn't have a pool, restaurant, room service etc... so it's a little difficult to make a comparison to Victoria's or Rae's on Wategos, but 1 thing is for certain, the position of the Watermark is better than both. The walk into town is about half an hour on the beach or the same up to Captain Cook's lookout. The only restaurant in Wategos is Rae's which is quite expensive, so if you're not the type that likes walking, get yourself a car. It is also located close to the lighthouse. Internet access was provided (wifi) but we had trouble some days connecting. This didn't really bother us because we were on holiday to get away from everything!
Overall - Highly recommended!

One tip for those that haven't been to Byron Bay before, if you fly into Ballina, DO NOT get a taxi to Wategos! I think as soon as our driver heard Wategos they decided to charge us the night fare (at 2pm in the afternoon!) and then went the long way to Wategos... We obviously found this out later... Taxi fare ended up costing us $120! You can hire a car from the airport for about $50 a day which is perfect because you can then drive into town and get some groceries to fill up the fridge! :-) The trip from the airport to Byron is about 40 minutes.
