When I booked Reynards Rest I wasn't too sure what to expect. The website looks very nice, but I've had experiences in the past when the website looks good and when you actually get there it is not what you expect.
Both Dough and Carol, the owners, received us (3 of us) with a very warm welcome. We were walking the South West Coast Path, so after 15 miles walk we were absolutely exhausted and dying for a drink. They served us some drinks and set up the deck in the garden with some mini scones, clotted cream and jam.
The B&B is at the top of a very steep hill, but it's definitely worth the trek. The views are just fantastic over the valley, and the house is full of history - it was used during World War II as a US Army officers' mess. The owners completely renovated it a few years ago to a very hight standard and kept the beautiful mosaic floor on the hallway. It only has two bedrooms, one double and one twin. The double is ensuite, with a bathroom that is almost the same size as the bedroom itself; and the twin has a private bathroom next door (for exclusive use of this room). Both rooms and bathrooms were absolutely spotless.
The breakfast was just fantastic! Despite only being 3 of us, Doug and Carol put an amazing spread which included fresh fruit salad, yoghourt, cereals, juice, tea, coffee, toast (with home made bread and preserve), cooked breakfast, full English or scrambled eggs, and the most amazing hog's pudding is a must try! They had also printed the weather report for the day from the internet and put it on the table for us.
This is definitely the best B&B I have ever stayed in, and as a South West Coast Path walker, I have stayed in a few! Particularly in Devon and Cornwall.
If you are ever in Par, you must stop at Reynards Rest!
