Our visit here had been kindly re-scheduled due to a cancellation by us some weeks earlier due to illness.
We arrived before the normal check-in time on a Monday lunchtime when the place is closed, but received a very warm welcome, checked in and shown to our room.
My initial reaction about the room was a little negative, feeling that the decor was a little tired in certain respects, perhaps becoming a little too shabby, shabby chic! Personally I think that a carpet on the floor would have given the room a warmer feel. It should be said that my wife did not particularly agree with me about the decor.
However, we settled in and dined that evening in what is a beautifully decorated bar and restaurant, full of ambience, with lively banter amongst locals and visitors, clearly very happy and enjoying the lovely surroundings.
The local ale was beautiful and the food exceptional, some of the best pub food we have experienced.
Overall, it was a great evening with our host Gillian Hern behind the bar and serving us at our table..
To sum up, we would certainly stay there again but I hope that they can give some time to the rooms and buy a load of gravel to fill the potholes in the drive!
