“Worst motel and rudest staff i have ever experienced”

Me and my wife went out to Hazleton for Penn State family weekend to visit with our son. We left Massachusetts at 7:30 for the 6 hour drive. I called the motel to inform them that we would be arriving at 1:00 AM and the man said they were open 24 hours. When we arrived I had to ring a door bell and wake someone up to register. The woman was extremely rude, and got even more agitated when i didn't have cash and wanted to pay with a credit card. I had a coupon that they advertised in a local paper and this only added to the tension that was already in the air. She told me the coupon was only good for 1 night, i would need 2 coupons for 2 nights so i paid for 1 night and finally went off to the room. The room was terrible, but acceptable for $47. The next morning i went out for coffee and another coupon, and at 11:00 sharp someone was pounding on the door telling my wife "get out checkout time is at 11" My wife explained we were staying another night and they went away. When i got back I payed for another night with my coupon and went back to the room and we got ready. Just before we left for the day we noticed the toilet would not flush from lack of water. I walked down to the office and explained the toilet is broke, we will be out for the rest of the day, if someone could fix the toilet, and drop off a couple of clean towel, it would be great. The woman said "we don't have 24 hour room service, we tried to clean your room and the woman wouldn't let us" I explained to the woman, I'm not asking you to clean the room, just fix the broken toilet, and if you throw a couple of clean towel on the bed that would be great. We went back and forth with this 3 times, before i left. At 1:30 AM we returned to the room with a still broken toilet, and no clean towels. I wanted to go ring the bell and wake them up and scream, but i bite my tongue and told my wife we can deal with it in the morning. At 11:00 sharp, the man was at the door demanding we vacate the motel. I explained we just woke up and we needed a few minutes to organize. The man threatened to call the cops, told us never to come back to this motel, and proceeded to shut off the hot water to the room. we packed out stuff and left the key in the room and took off, and trust me we will never go back there again.

“This place is awful”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 June 2007

I stayed at the Hazleton Motor Inn the night of June 1, 2007. This place is nothing like the establishment's website shows, or other reviews indicated.

There was nothing wrong with staff per se, although I found them to be fairly aloof, like they couldn't be bothered with rudimentary tasks like checking me in and out. That I can live with, barely.

The accommodations themselves were nothing short of awful. Don't believe anything about data ports or high-speed internet in the rooms. The touch-tone phone I had dated back to the 1980s, if not earlier. Likewise, their claims of in-room movies turned out to be inaccurate. The rooms did have cable, although the universal remote control in my room did not control the television.

The bathroom door didn't close fully. The cleanliness and state of repair of the bathroom were questionable, at best. Nothing that any reasonable person forking over $50 per night would find acceptable.

The room comes with a table and two chairs. One of the chairs looked like it had been vomited on by a prior occupant, and never cleaned or replaced by staff. I swear this is no joke...

The carpet was pocked by cigarette burns.

No alarm clock was included in my room, nor was any offer made by staff to provide a wake-up call. Isn't this pretty much a given in any hotel room. Thankfully I have a cell phone with an alarm feature.

The front door to the room includes a deadbolt, but one that can be opened with a key by staff, or God only knows who else. No chain or bar lock. You will see why this is important as I get a little further into the review.

I have my doubts as to whether the linens were cleaned or changed prior to my arrival. The sheets and pillowcases were stained and yellowed, and the bed spread on one of the beds had what I can reasonably assume was a booger on it. Again, no lie! It was really a tough call to take the floor or one of the beds for sleeping - not that I slept very much.

The staff made little or no effort to control the behavior of much of the clientele, which seemed to be made up of a lot of "locals" looking for a good time. I had what sounded like a couple engaged in a domestic argument on one side of me, and a group of about a dozen hoodlums on the other side. Thankfully, there is a district magistrate's office fronting the property the hotel occupies, and I felt fairly safe parking my car there. To top it all off, at about 3:00am I receive a call from one of my friendly fellow occupants downstairs, asking me what all the noise and banging was about?!? Never mind the fact that I was the only person in the room, and miraculously asleep at the time. Or at least I was until that call came in.

I realize this all seems like a case of sour grapes. The management must have done something to set me off, right? Wrong. I made the best of my evening and paid for the room like I obligated myself to do. However, I would have probably been better off sleeping in my rental car.

I realize $50 is not that much as far as hotel rooms go, but it is still a lot of money for a working stiff like myself. I feel that this kind of money should buy a spartan experience, but one better than what I had. The room I rented for the evening was *maybe* worth $20, if that. It is by far the most dumpy, skanky place I have ever laid my head.

If I can offer advice to you and your family, pony up a few extra bucks for a room in a respected national chain, or go camping. Avoid this place like any one of a number of diseases you might catch staying there.

“Money Hungry in Hazleton!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 June 2006

When arriving at the motel, I had to wait around 10 minutes until anyone arrived to check me in. This occurred at approximately 1pm, so staff should have been available for check in. Also, Mrs. Patel attempted to charge me extra money for my 4 year old son staying in the room, although all advertised policies (motel office, Internet) clearly state that children stay free. Once I asked her about her policies, her negative attitude was evident. BEWARE of this motel, they are all about trying to take every extra dime that they can get from you!!!

I talk to Mr. Patel regarding to posted about cancelling reservation and he said non reservation was cancel on june and july months. He saw me the reservation paper.

i am writing above notes after i visited Hazleton Motor Inn. I stayed there for four days. i did not have my car with me so i have to use Taxi cab for service; however, most of the time Mr. Patel drop and pick me up from one place to unother and he did not charge me any money. i think Mr. Patel and family is nice poeple and they understand people problem.
