“WORST”

I stayed at this bed and breakfast for a long weekend in aug and it was HORRIBLE. Where to start with the complaints is hard. First if you have ANY allergies to cat avoid this place. I was not informed that there were cats in the house and suffered all weekend with severe allergies. Second the bedrooms were horrible. There are NO locks on the doors so any valuables you have must be taken with you during the day because there is no place to secure them. My favorite was being told by the owner that we should leave the front door open when we are gone during the day. The bedrooms also do not have doors in the bathrooms. I was very uncomfortable using a bathroom that was open to the rest of the people in the bedroom. I am very modest and do not need to have people see or hear me when I am using the restroom. Also the owner makes you clean the house when you leave however when we arrivied the house was far from it. My jacuzzi tub which I was looking so forward to using was full of hair and grime and needed to be cleaned before I even used it. The owner does not stock alot of toilet paper and towels and we had to go buy extra toilet paper while we were there. The next awful thing was the air conditioning. We live in a household that likes it cold. After arriving at the house we lowered the air because it was hot out and after a few hours the owner felt the need to shut the air off and lock it. We sweat all night and were MISERABLE. The owners were also always around. This was also noted in other complaints. We wanted to go down to hang out by the fire pit and the owners also felt the need to sit there. My family was unhappy with them to begin with about the air and the last thing we felt like doing was sitting around a bon fire with them. It was not right of them to sit there while we were renting the house. The owner popped in and out alot always with new complaints. The house also has a pool but the owners have no lights around it so it is literally pitch black at night and we were told the heater was broken. * if you run a bed and breakfast the heater should be fixed so people who pay good money can enjoy the pool * When we left we cleaned the house and did the laundry per the owners rules and she still held 80 dollars of our security because she claims we did not. This owner has a nice house but she should not be renting her house out to people because she has to many rules and does not run a proper bed and breakfast. Save your time and your money and look elsewhere.

Wow! What creative writing! Where to start? I'm truely sorry this group was not happy here.
In response:

1. Yes, we have an adorable cat. The home page of our website says it, and has a photo of Casper. He is outside most of the time, and kept out of the quest rooms. We stock OTC alergy meds for people who come knowing this, and have a reaction. Very few people have needed it.

2. The bedroom doors all have locks. We live in a rural, secluded, safe area. Our quests are told they can safely leave the exterior doors unlocked. My husband and I live here, and a poilce officer lives at the entrance to our driveway. We've never had intruders - in 30 years. I don't know if they locked the doors or not - we didn't check.

3. Most of our guest suites have bathroom doors w/locks. The 2 that don't have privacy screens to block the view into the bathroom.

4. We operate as either a Bed & Breakfast OR a vacation home rental. When you rent the house - as this group did, the rate is much lower, and you have the choice of cleaning before you leave or paying a cleaning fee. I clean, or inspect, each room after people check out, so I know everything is clean for the next arrivals. This group left the house neat, and most rooms clean, but forgot to clean the bathrooms and some floors. It took 4 hrs. to complete the cleaning, so we retained part of the security deposit. We'll also supply and wash/dry all linens for a small fee - asking them only to start the washer with the 1st load of sheets . No one has ever used all the towels, or ask for more.

5. When you rent a house, paper supplies are not usually included. We provide enough for the 1st night.

6. On arrival (2 PM), we asked them to keep the thermostat for the central air conditioner between 72 and 76 degrees, and told them the windows and doors must all be shut while it's on. Early evening, I was outside and noticed several windows were wide open. Many of the guests were also outside, so I asked them if everything was OK with the house. They were loving it! I then reminded them that all windows must be shut while the AC is on.
About midnight, I awoke COLD - inside temp was 65 degrees. I stepped outside, and saw that at least 4 windows were WIDE open. I turned off the AC unit( it had been runing continuously for 9 hrs), and went back to bed. By mid morning, the inside temperature was up to 72 degrees. My husband reminded them to keep windows shut, and turned the AC back on. The next night, the thermostat was at 67 degrees, but we left it on, because the windows were shut.

7. The 2nd evening, I cleaned out the fire pit, and started a fire, while they were inside. We sat there until a few people joined us, chatted a bit, the then left the area to them.

8. The pool area has 3 small solar lights, a motion sensor lite, and a flood light - controlled by a switch inside the pool house, which was open for guests' use. A citronella torch is ready to light. Flash lights are available. No one said anything about it. I think the moon was full that weekend. We will improve signage for the light switch.
The pool heater was not working because it was not needed. The sun and hot days kept the water near 80 degrees. It felt wonderful!

9. If you want the house at 65 degrees, and the pool water at 85 degrees, and are not willing to clean bathrooms or pay a cleaning fee, this is not the house for you to rent. To every one else, please stay in our home, and we will gladly do what we can to make it a wonderful, relaxing vacation for you. Many people come here time after time, and love it. When you stay as a B&B guest, everything (linens, soaps, cleaning, breakfast, toilet paper, candles, snacks, drinks, reading/writing materials, firewood) is included in the price, and we will talk to you occassionally. Best wishes always.

“Wonderful Birthday Weekend”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 June 2010

I surprised my boyfriend with a weekend getaway for his birthday and decided to stay at the Tree Top B&B, primarily for the location and because it was "built green". We stayed in the Love Suite, a spacious room with a comfortable bed, cozy fireplace, and a fantastic jacuzzi and separate shower. Bonnie, the owner, was friendly and helpful. Breakfast was delicious (the fresh pomegranate was a nice touch) and the view was beautiful. We definitely recommend it!

“Great spot for a quiet getaway.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 May 2010

My fiancee and I stayed in the Love Suite and loved every minute of it. The room was huge, with a gorgeous shower and jacuzzi. The fireplace was fantastic, though the house is so well insulated that it got a little too hot with the fireplace running. To top it all off, breakfast plentiful and delicious. Overall a wonderful stay!

“great house, just didn't feel very homey”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 May 2010

We stayed here for two nights recently and received a free upgrade to the 'Love' room; really nice and new with great views and the same could be said for most of the house. The hosts were generally nice, but I guess we were really expecting much more of a "tender loving care" type atmosphere. Contrary to other reviews, we found the breakfast to be kinda bland, a lot of it coming from off the shelf and not freshly made. Even the cookies that we originally thought were home baked were actually store bought and reheated. When we tried to ask for advice on what sights to see in town, we were told that we should just drive around and see for ourselves. We just felt like we were intruding upon the hosts' personal space during our entire stay - granted the fact that we were the only guests in the house might have contributed to this.

This place would make a great short term vacation home (and they do rent it out btw). If you're expecting a wonderful home made breakfast and afternoon tea/dessert, then look elsewhere.

I wish we had known you wanted more TLC. It's difficult to know just how much attention each person wants, and we don't want to be hovering. I think you misunderstood my suggestion to drive downtown, and then walk around, checking out the neat, little stores. You would have found a wonderful toy store, with many neat, quality, things your little girl would love. I'll try to be more explicit.
I do make cookies from"scratch" most times, but it's hard to make a small batch, and will occassionally cheat and bake refrigerated dough when we have few guests. They were good enough for you to ask for the recipe!
Please come back, and give us another chance.

“Love at First Stay!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 April 2010

For my first time staying at a Bed and Breakfast "Tree Top B&B" was a great choice! The jacuzzi was a great touch and the bed was like sleeping on a Cloud! We stayed in the Love room and was treated to a great breakfast in which Bonnie the owner made for us. I felt very at ease and welcomed and it was a great getaway for us even though it was a business trip! Definitely will be going back!
