Where do I begin? The staff most definitely needs public/customer relations instructions...and we dealt with at least three people
Right off the bat at check-in the negatives started. Two ladies behind the counter and my wife and I are the only ones standing in front. Neither paid any attention to us at all...no greeting...nothing. After a while one walked away and went back into the office. The remaining one still paid no attention to us. Finally she left and went into the office. Just as I was about to ring the bell, one of them returned and in a very blase attitude took care of us.
We stayed two nights and neither morning when we came down and walked by the front counter were we greeted...nothing. And both times there was a lady working the counter and nobody there for her to deal with...just us walking by.
A few times I went to the counter for information. I got it, but sometimes felt like I was a bother.
They have a neat "living/great room" with fireplace, seating, antique lamps, books, magazines, games, etc. Because of the nature of the place it is not real well lit and that is OK. But one evening we were both sitting and reading and at 10 o'clock the lady at the counter cut the lights back even further. We were appalled. What a idotic PR move.
We have never stayed anyplace where the final balance due is payable as soon as you check-in. Strange.
They do have a restaurant that is open for breakfast and dinner (except Wednesday and Thursday), but they require reservations. This may be OK for dinner, but for breakfast???. We took a look at the prices and didn't eat any meals there.
No Internet access. Not a deal breaker, and It is a rustic, historic lodge, but in this day and for the rates they charge it would be a plus.
A previous review mentioned adding more gravel to the parking lot. That would be a good idea.
With the beautiful setting they have and the history of the place, I believe they are missing the boat by not making the place much more customer friendly.
