We stayed at the cottage at Seely House in Guthrie Oklahoma for our 22nd Anniversary. We had a wonderful weekend! The cottage sits beside the main house and gives you complete privacy. The decorations are superb. Everything is clean and very nice. There is a wonderful whirlpool tub as well as a separate shower area. They provided complimentary sodas and bottled water in the mini-fridge as well as tea, coffee and popcorn that we could fix if we desired. This was a nice touch.
Breakfast was superb! They prepared it and brought it over to the cottage at the time we requested. We got to eat in our own private retreat! (It was delicious!)
The owners offered to come out to the airport and pick us up as we had planned to fly in by private plane. The city has a public transport system we would have utilized from there. Weather made us drive in instead.
Guthrie is a very interesting historic town to visit. It built up in the land rush in 1889 and many of the buildings date to around that time. They have well preserved their old town (which are not far from the seely house) with brick roads, buildings, museums & shops. There is a wonderful city trolley tour of the area's historic homes. The Seely house was built in the early 1880's from what I remember. I forget the exact year.
Guthrie is a city with many bed & breakfasts. We saw several from the outside while in town. I'm sure there are several nice places, but we saw none that made us regret staying at the Seely House.
They also keep a guest book in the cottage. It is full of praise from every person that stays there! I read through it all and didn't see one complaint! People love it there!! I highly recommend it for a great romantic retreat. (There is a fireplace in the winter - we'd like to go back!)
