The property is centrally located directly in the heart of the Put In Bay community; location, location, location (it is perfect). Make no mistake, as advertised; this is a mid-19the century Victorian style hotel. The rooms are small but nicely appointed. Your do not have private baths, but those on each floor are very clean, and readily accessible. The first thing that you should notice is the down-home style comfort of the old hotel; as you see it from the street, you notice the wide sweeping front porch that offers a grand view of the crowds mingling along Delaware St. and dinning at the Chicken Barbeque. It has the feel of some of the great old B&Bs in the French Quarter.
The staff is friendly and attentive to your needs. If you need it, ask for it. They will bring you towels, blankets, extra pillows, even ice (but you will need to go to the desk to get it). There is no lounge or restaurant directly in the hotel (thus no room service). But anything you would want is just a short walk away. The Roundhouse Bar is actually connected to the hotel and is an awesome experience (135 years in business and still going strong). They have live entertainment on weekends (generally starting at 2:00 PM and going until 2:00 AM).
This is a “party town” in some senses of the word(s); it is not as loud or as lewd as Bourbon Street, it is not as flashy or trendy as South Beach; it is simply put, a very fun place for folks of all adult ages to enjoy good friends, music, food and drink. The hotel is as quite or as loud as your fellow guest makes it. My experience was just fine; by the time we went to bed I was not disturbed until the sun peeping through the shuttered windows pried my eyes open. At $145.00 a night on week-ends, the guest list may be a little more mature than previous visitors have found. Yes there still are noise makers, and as I found out from the staff, property damagers and generally unruly guests but I think they are actually fewer than in the past.
This is a very nice property with local owners and staff personnel that try to make your visit an enjoyable one.
