“A nostalgic treasure in the Mid West!”

I stayed here a few years ago and was delighted with the charming accommodations and fabulous full breakfast unexpectedly INCLUDED in the room rate. I was so happy to return for another stay this past weekend and found it retained it's charm and quality all around. The staff is friendly, the decor and food presentation is just lovely. I highly recommend this beautifully maintained Inn!

“Pretty Good.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 January 2012

People have consistently rated this place 5 stars, but I think that's a bit too high. Definitely a nice place to stay, by and large. But it has some gaps as well. We had a room for a family of four, and it was rather too small for all of us. We stayed there in January, and there was no heat in the bathroom (or the large closet, so when you open the closet door your get an arctic blast). My biggest complaint was that the bathroom had a countertop that wrapped around the toilet in such a way that when you did your business, you'd be bumping into the counter top. My family member and I are relatively small sized people--any one of large girth would have had difficulty using the toilet for this reason. Weird. Other concerns were that the facilities weren't clearly marked. For example, the hotel's main parking area off the main road didn't have a sign indicating it was the parking area, so we parked on the side street, only to be told later to move the car to the (unmarked) parking area. We got our bags out and almost went into the office, but realized what we'd assumed was the front door wasn't marked as such, so we dragged our bags through the snow into the court yard in search of the office. We realized belatedly we had it right the first time, and dragged our bags back again the the (unmarked) office. Once we got our room assigned, it was back outside across the court yard, so we were out there dragging our bags through the snow yet again. I guess this sounds like a silly complaint, but when your tired from traveling and it's friggin' cold outside (we live in the tropics), its nice if there's a bit of clarity on where to go to find what you need the first time. As for places to go for dinner, there wasn't any decent sit-down diner or restaurant in the area. The owner recommended one, and gave us directions, which we followed, but found no evidence of the existence of the restaurant she'd recommended. We gave up and ate at the Chipotle's in the area--normally one of my favorite restaurants when I'm DC--but this particular Chipotle's was a bit of a dive (no decent place to sit and eat--better to get take away and eat in your hotel room). The room was clean and beds were nice, and the morning breakfast was very nice. It's a decent enough place to stay, but not a 5 star experience.

Room Tip: We stayed in Room 23 and the bathroom countertop competed with the toilet, making it difficult to us...

“Been staying there for years”

My husband and I have stayed at the Mt. Vernon Inn when we are in town and can get a room since the inn opened. We have stayed at many of the other motels if the inn is booked and believe me this place is the best in town and in Gambier. We have watched it change into the lovely inn it has become. We love to stay in the cottage, it's always clean and comfortable. The employees are always friendly and accommodating and the breakfast is delicious.

Room Tip: We love the Rob Foreman Dew Cottage. Nice and cozy with a huge master bathroom.

“Charming rooms, friendly staff, Fab breakfasts”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 December 2011

It is a pleasure staying at the Inn. Location in Mt Vernon not the best but it is an oasis.
Rooms nicely done and are large. Our bathroom this time was a bit cramped but that is not the norm.
Highly reccomended

“An unexpected gem in Ohio”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 November 2011

My niece recommended this place when she found out I was planning to stay in a motel in Mansfield. This place is delightful!! They have different size rooms for different needs. The price compares very favorably to a good motel. My little room was so cozy, it was more like a master bedroom in a nice house than a motel room, but it had all the amenities I needed. The courtyard and the 'big house' are beautiful. There were lovely fall decorations, and they waited until after Thanksgiving to put up their Xmas wreaths!! Yea!! And BOO to the reviewer who complained about not having a flat screen tv!! I got very good reception on many channels, I am so tired of the 'flat tv mystique' and the trashing of perfectly good tube tvs becauser they aren't 'in'!!! (I admit that I didn't use the internet while I was there). the complaint about the street being noisy is ridiculous too, it was very quiet and I slept soundly. Definitely plan to stay here on future trips to Mt Vernon!!

Room Tip: go on their lovely and user-friendly website to pick and reserve your room!!
