This is the second year in a row that we stayed at this particular motel. It is conveniently located to Cedar Point Amusement Park and to several local restaurants. Every year we make a several day trip to Cedar Point - and next year we will also be staying at this particular motel. The customer service here is terrific. Good quality for the price.

Until last month, when we stayed at the Comfort Inn in Huron, we've used Tripadvisor dozens and dozens of times without ever feeling let down. We spent a lot of time researching lodging options around Cedar Point and booked the Comfort Inn for two nights on the remarkable strength of the 100-plus reviews of the place. But, wow, the abundance of positive reviews is just flat-out inexplicable here.

Our room was easily one of the worst we've ever seen - and this is one of just two places we've ever checked out of shortly after check-in.

There were live ants crawling around on the windowsill and walls, and dead ants in the nightstand and dresser drawers. The bathroom was mildewy and the entire room was overwhelmingly musty. The air conditioner didn't quite fit its slot beneath the window, and there was an open space next to the unit through which one could look outside and see very clearly the green grass and bright sunshine that was just on the other side of the wall (which, I suppose, explained the ants). The bedding wasn't entirely clean, one of the mattresses was just scary (it had a sizable splotch on it that certainly resembled dried blood), and the first thing we saw upon walking into the bathroom - a washcloth hanging on a rack - was streaked with black (either very dirty, or very stained, or both).

As noted above, we didn't stay. At a cost of additional time that we didn't have (and which effectively robbed us of some time we would have spent with our kids at Cedar Point), we scrambled to find other accommodations for the night (and the following night, since we had booked two at the Comfort Inn). Very fortunately, we were able to find a Hampton Inn off the Turnpike in Milan, perhaps 15 miles or so southwest of Huron and away from most of the Cedar Point hotel sprawl. If you find yourself in the Cedar Point area and, like us, struggle to find a decent-looking place, don't make the mistake of trusting the reviews of this place. Something is badly amiss and, as another recent reviewer noted, there is reason to believe that - perhaps due to a promotion the property ran (a chance to win an IPad or IPod for reviewing the place on Tripadvisor - all you had to do was provide your Tripadvisor user name to the Comfort Inn) - the reviews are slanted and by no means objective.

If you brave this place, maybe you'll get lucky and get a nicer room than we got (you'll be hard-pressed to do worse) - but maybe you won't. The Hampton Inn (in Milan - not Sandusky) was quiet, clean and a welcome change from the Comfort Inn. It cost us about $5 more per night than the Comfort Inn (not that we would have stayed at the Comfort Inn for any price - we wouldn't have). But you wouldn't believe the difference unless you've seen it for yourself.

Unless you don't care at all whether you have a clean room to stay in, just do yourself a favor and steer clear of this place.

The property is generally well maintained. Yet housekeeping could do better. (More on that later)
The breakfast is not hot, as the choice Hotels website indicates it is, unless you count the one waffle maker that could not handle the numbers of people. Also the space is very limited.
The pool was clean, but quite cold.
Housekeeping seemed to miss certain things. Upon arrival the coffee maker in the room had old coffee and the used grounds packet in it. Each day, after cleaning, my morning leftovers remained in the pot when I returned. Little things (or not so little) such as Kleenex sitting on the counter rather than in the space for it which was empty, black hairs on the bathroom floor, (not mine as I am blond and bald), and some dust bunnies detracted.
Upon arrival the main room door lock that one locks from the inside did not work, the room safe was faulty, and the door security guard (the one where you can open the door part way), was missing. I told the desk person about this and all three were remedied the next day.
I might be a bit wary of the reviews here, as the hotel has a contest in which one option was to submit a review to TripAdvisor and indicate your screen name. The prize was an ipad.
There is no elevator so a second floor room means carrying things up a flight of stairs.
The front desk people ranged from helpful and pleasant to downright rude and unpleasant. Also answers to the same request varied greatly.

The staff really helped us with finding food in the area, they had complimentary breakfast and a swimming pool. The only complaint i have is that we could hear children running down the halls and screaming and housekeeping were a bit loud.
