“2012 visit to King Island”

I have always wanted to visit King Island (yes, I love the beach, cheese, great steak and a nice bottle of red) and when I had the opportunity to go this year, I jumped at it. I was not disappointed! The place is beautiful - lots of wildlife, beautiful scenery, lovely people and fantastic cheese. We stayed at KIng Island Holiday Village where we were looked after in grand style by Ian and Lucinda. The highlight was the trip around the southern part of the island, where we were taken to beautiful places that we could not have seen without their 4WD bus. Ian is a mine of information about the island, its history and natural history. We were wined and dined in paradise (in the bush near the calcified forest) and all meals were home cooked and prepared by Ian and Lucinda. The accommodation was great for our large group - we all had separated (lovely) rooms with ensuite, and upstairs there was a communal dining and lounge area (with fire - it can be cold even in summer) where we could all get together to eat, drink, chat and look at the beautiful view. Breakfast was served each morning and always included King Island yoghurt and a variety of other treats. So, I can strongly recommend this accommodation for location, food, service, amenities and a 'local' view of the island.

I have been a regular visitor to King Island over a number of years and always feel relaxed and welcome on this beautiful island. I visitted the island in January with my family (wife, 3 girls and father in law) as well as my cousin and her husband. We stayed at the King Island Motel which has very comfortable clean rooms and a wonderful dining room with the most amazing outlook over the ocean. I thoroughly enjoyed the "normal" attractions - the races (should be on everyone's bucket list!), the Cheese Factory, the beef, and the beautiful people. The extra dimension for me this time was a 4WD bus tour to the south of the island run by Ian & Lucinda where I learnt more about the island than in about a dozen previous trips, as well as seeing even more majestic untouched places. Enhanced by damper at Smugglers Cove and a succulent Roast beef dinner with white table cloths at the Calcified Forest, this was a day to remember. I admit to becoming a personal friend of Ian since I began visitting, but believe me when I say there is no bias in my comment that this is a spectacular place to visit, made thoroughly enjoyable by warm caring hosts and clean comfortable accommodation

“KI cheese tour”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

What a great 2days. Ian & Lucinda from King Island Holiday village made our trip unforgettable. The rooms were very comfortable and the meals were second to none. The crayfish & the oysters with King Island Endeavour Blue cheese were the highlight of the evening. Sitting at the dinner table with ocean views-just brilliant .
The 4WD tour took us off the beaten track & experience places and wildlife that most tourist would not get the opportunity to see.
The King Island Dairy tour was so enlighting. Great to catch up with King Island cheese maker Ueli Berger.

2 days is not enough to see all the sites on King Island. Can't wait to return to see the rest of the island.I would recommend King Island Holiday Village anyone.

What a Weekend, I didn’t want it to end, From the time We arrived at King Island our hosts Ian and Lucinda where feeding us and showing us the magical wonders they have at their door step. The 4WD Drive Guided tour was great getting you off the beaten tracks you experienced things and places the normal tourist would not get to see. Ian is a wealth of knowledge explaining the history of the places, we visited. The Wildlife I don’t think I have ever seen so much wildlife everywhere i turned in the wild, and once again our Guide Ian could tell you all about every specie we saw. The Meals and refreshments where in some ways over the top but in a good way, we would arrive back at the lunch spot after exploring and photographing, expecting some lovely sandwiches etc. Only to be blown away by 2 course meal, with table clothes and silverware. I’m only glade that there was so much to see and explore to walk off all the food and drinks. The private penguin parade was great to be able to get up so close to the little critters, and after a busy days exploring returning home to lovely warm comfortable accommodation for a nights well learnt rest, the rooms where very nice I was luckily enough to stay in the Spa suite, which was very nice, not that there was time to enjoy a spa. I was terrified bout the Flight over to King Island as i don’t like to fly much and smallish planes really scare me. I didn’t want to get on the plane, but I am so glade I did as it was so much more then expected, The accommodation Meals and hosts and a accompanied by Ian Rolfe a Landscape Photography really made it a great photography tour. I really don’t like flying much but I will return for some more exploring and I can bring my partner and he can enjoy the sites and all the culinary delight that King Island have to offer as well

The hospitality and accommodation were second to none. The rooms were very comfortable and it was just so nice to come back to a warm room after a day out in the cold - it was wet and windy too.
Lucinda's catering and good humour were legendary.Ian excelled himself with his knowledge of the Island. He also took us to the most picturesque areas in a very comfortable and roomy 4WD.
Beautiful place.
Beautiful people.
I will be back.
