We had a single night stay prior to getting on the Spirit of Tasmania ferry. We weren't expecting much based on the reviews, but we were pleasantly surprised. Check in was quick and friendly. The room was very nice, clean and spacious. The bed was comfortable, it was quiet, and we had a good night's sleep.

We also didn't expect much from the restaurant, but again, it was good. The prices were reasonable, and it tasted great.

The only negative to the Edgewater is that it is located on the opposite side of the river from where everything is (restaurants, parks, cinemas, CBD). As a result, I wouldn't recommend a multiple day stay here if you are planning to do things in Devonport. Having said that, there is a very nice walking trail directly from the hotel along the river and the Bass Straight that looks like it goes for quite a ways.

Overall, I'd recommend this place.

Stayed overnight in a "waterfront double" at the Edgewater - only chose it as it was very close to the ferry terminal for the Spirit of Tasmania. The standard of the room was very basic and the fixtures/fittings were also at the lower end of the scale. The room was clean, however, and the staff at reception were friendly and obliging. In addition to the 20 odd motel rooms the Edgewater is also a pub & we found it had a surprisingly good bistro that offered a good variety of meals and had a reasonable wine list. Again, the staff in the bistro were very good and the service was great.

Probably not the best accommodation in Devonport but it is one of the few places in the eastern side of the river near the ferry terminal.

If you need a short stay in Devonport, this is the place. Have stayed numerous times - room is fairly basic but everything always spotlessly clean and everything one needs. Love it. Waterfront room is great, love watching the Spirit of Tasmania leaving and arriving (though fairly early). Very convenient having nice restaurant on site - food is always good. Very comfortable beds and rooms recently given a make-over. Great walk along river from hotel. Staff always welcoming and obliging. Always a good stay.

I'm not too fussy when I travel, but this is really bad. I stayed in one of the 'courtyard' rooms - half the lights didn't work and the tiles were peeling off the shower recess. I bought internet, but their wireless was too weak to pick up and I was not offered any recompense. I ate dinner in their restaurant (simple fish and chips - really, no salad or nothing) and was then up at 3am with the trots.

Overall the staff were really nice, but this doesn't make up for the really poor facilities and dodgy food. Don't believe the pictures.
