“Great room, pity about the appalling check-in experience”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 February 2011

I am currently staying at this property, in its harbour view junior suite. The room is amazing: on the top floor, at the corner, with views of the town and the harbour below. It has full electronic control over its curtains, blinds, and even its windows. The room is very large (probably the size of two standard rooms), with a large modern bathroom with spa. The room appears to have been recently refurbished, and is finished nicely in good taste, with ample sitting area.

So, with so much potential, it is disaapointing that the check-in process is so inconsistent with where this hotel is trying to be. A frumpy lady at the desk, pre-occupied with adding some numbers up on a calculator, barely greeted me as I checked in. No welcome, no grace, no friendliness, that you would expect anywhere, but particularly in this friendly island. This is a huge disappointment.

“Nice room, great sleep”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 January 2011

Stayed in the deluxe spa room and thoroughly enjoyed it. A very relaxing evening in a comfortable modern room overlooking Devonport. Had dinner in the hotel restaurant and whilst the staff were very busy the food was lovely. In all, pretty good value.

“Not very accommodating”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 August 2010

If you have children this hotel is definately NOT family friendly. On arrival we asked for an upgrade for the night and were informed that children were not allowed above the 2nd floor. There is no adaquete eating facilities for a family meal unless your children are gourmets or they would like to eat at counters in the gaming room or expensive room service from the al a carte restaurant.
Definately a hotel to miss!

“Okay if you like cigarette fumes”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 February 2010

We stayed at this hotel on our first and last nights in Tasmania. It is very convenient if you are arriving or leaving on the Spirit of Tasmania ferry. If you park out the back you need to carry your luggage up some stairs before you reach the single lift. The rooms are dated, but reasonably priced for what you get, and there is a buffet breakfast available. (A continental breakfast was included in the price of our room). The on-site restaurant has a limited and somewhat pricey menu. It is closed on Sundays. There is a small selection of reasonably priced meals in the bar. There are a few eating spots within walking distance of the hotel. The only rooms that have airconditioning are on the top (3rd) floor. We were on the 2nd floor and arranged for a pedastal fan via reception. Fortunately for us the weather was mild both nights we stayed. The biggest problem for us was the cigarette smoke seeping into our room under the door. This happened on both nights in what is supposed to be a non-smoking hotel. There is only so much management & staff can do to stop people smoking in their rooms or hallways, but it was particularly unpleasant at this hotel.
