Guided tours are the only option and I usually hate them (maybe I got lucky?). Small groups starting with very good cinema presentation and then a walk through of tanks etc with excellent and informed commentary. Lots of photo ops and the Echidna exhibit is also included. The place sounds like a usual tourist trap but it really is worth a look.

We visited both Platypus House and Seahorse World (they are located directly opposite each other) recently. I found the visit interesting, informative and worth a visit. They offer a family discount and you can get a discount for visiting Platypus House, Seashorse World and Beaconsfield mine in one day.

If you are waiting for a tour they make great coffee!
