“Great pub but NOT very child friendly”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 January 2012

I had a super saturday lunch recently at The Horse Guards. Delicious food, creative decor, attentive staff etc BUT definitely not very keen on our children. We were under the impression that we would be v welcome but this was not the case. We came with another family so 4 adults and 4 kids in total. Kids ranged from 2-6 years. There was lots of tutting from the staff when the children wanted to wander from the table following the meal. Lots of do not do this, that or the other signs in the garden.

Superb pub for the correct age group but why not round the young ones up and put them in your bottom room? Or make it clear you don't want any young kids?

We would have stayed for coffee and pudding perhaps in the garden out of the way, but we felt so unwelcome that we left. Shame as I've been to the pub before and it was good.

“Great food, great staff, great little room!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 December 2011

I took my girlfriend for a night's stay at the Horse Guards recently. We paid £80 for a double room in the pub and also spent an enjoyable evening there for dinner. The staff are very friendly and efficient, the room was quirky, stylish and comfortable and the food, although not exactly inexpensive, was very good indeed. If you're in the market for a really cosy and welcoming pub to stay for a night or two and a very good meal on top you could do a lot worse than this place. A real find and one to which we will definitely return!

“Great for a Sunday Lunch - We will be back for more!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 November 2011

We were on the way to our hotel for the weekend in Midhurst when we came across The Horse Guards Inn in thick fog, opposite a little church in Tillington

We were welcomed by lots of smiles and friendly staff, who were more than happy to move us when we requested a table away from a large family with children running around them

*Great service from all the girls. Friendly, polite and helpful!
*Lovely welcoming and homely atmophere!
*Top notch food! Roast Beef on Sunday is recommend, as are the bread & dips to start!
*Good quality, well prepared coffee.
*Charming garden to rear (which I am sure is great in the summer)
*Well priced main courses

Thank you all for a lovely lunch!

“Amazing place with top quality service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 October 2011

If you are looking for a place to stay around the petworth/midhurst area I would highly recommend you spend at least one night in there cottage which is attached to the pub. Then whilst you are there you need to try the food one of the best meals I have had in 2011. But most of all the service you are provided with is top quality from the moment you walk in. This is a must and we will be looking to visit this pub in the near future even if it's just for dinner.

“The most expensive sandwich I have ever had!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 October 2011

Having reviewed the menu, we both ordered a sirloin steak sandwich, at a price of £11.00. At the supposed level of quality of this establishment, the portion was small. Two slices of tough beef, with two thin, small, slices of bread, a poor garnish and handfull of crinkle cut crisps. We were expecting something special as the reviews are generally good, but this was not so and we found the perceived value, to be much lower. We did not complain, at the time because we eat the food. The pub itself is full of character and the staff all very friendly.
