I booked here as a recommendation for my husbands birthday. We stayed in the Summer room which was very nice. We had a 3 course dinner in the evening and this was gorgeous as was breakfast the following day, couldn't fault the food.. Though we were promised a bottle of wine as it was a birthday celebration which we didn't receive, but all in all we had a fabulous stay.

“HOWARD ARMS VISIT”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 January 2012

I booked a table for 5 including my 3 year old grandson on Sunday. We arrived around 1.15 car park busy and evidence of lots of walkers,We went into the dining area and were greeted with a super efficient restaurant manageress who checked us in and showed us to an area where we were given the menus. We were asked if we wanted to order pre meal drinks and when we were ready shown to the table and introduced to our waiter-who was great with us and my grandson. My wife and myself had traditional Sunday lunch but wanted to mix the meats -no problem, son had pork, daughter had vegetarian and grandson small portion of chicken. All the meals were super-really delicious,We had 3 courses each ,2 bottles of beautiful house wine Duc de Chapelle and some drinks (super Old Hooky) in a well staffed, friendly, warm log fire heated, professional restaurant for around £170 which I thought with all the positives well worth it.I wished I lived nearer because I would go every week.EXCELLENT

Fantastic stay - simply can't fault it. A real attention to detail and its often these little things that make the difference. Room was lovely, food excellent and staff friendly and attentive.

Well done!

“Poor Room, poor service, poor food”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 December 2011

We have often admired the building from the outside and decided to stay the night and dine for an night.
The room seemed newly decorated was ok, but the cleanliness was awful, it really needed a deep clean.
The food was poor, the fishcakes were basically potato and tasteless as we're the duck spring rolls.
Mains courses were also very forgettable. We expected more and were generally disappointed.
We felt it was extremely poor value.

Dear Mr Felix Lighter
Thanks for the constructive comments, I would very much like to investigate your comments in more detail so that I can take the necessary steps to avoid a repeat. As you will see from the majority of comments on TA, we take the business we are in very seriously. However, we do not always get things right 100% of the time. Furthermore, I understand how disappointing it is for you when you do not receive the very best food and service. Your comments have been discussed with the team and I would like to invite you to contact me personally so that I can deal with the issues raised on a more personal level. Quentin
