“Pleasant stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 February 2012

was very sceptical before staying due to the mixed comments in tripadvisor. Even wondering should I cancel my booking. Stayed there on 17th & 18th Jan in a double room, got a good on-line price of £69 for 2 nights including breakfast. It was a nice clean room, spacious with a attached toilet and shower. The bed linen were clean and had a TV, coffee & tea facilities. I stayed in 204 and the room didn't face the main road so not much noise. No shoddy characters roaming around as I was warned previously. Breakfast was simple but on time and staff were helpful to refill. Staff were very helpful. Plenty of places to eat, including Indian & Chinese. Mac Donalds and bank cash machines nearby. The travelodge is 7-10min walking distance from East Croydon station. I enjoyed my stay there.

Room Tip: Stayed in 2nd floor, I feel the family rooms are in this floor, quieter than other floors.

“Do not be alarmed!!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 January 2012

We stayed for 2 nights in Croydon as we were down to see a match. Check in was fine and didn't have the Travelodge hard sell for their breakfast which can sometimes be annoying. After a good day out, we went to sleep. Sadly it took a while to find a comfortable position as the mattress was worn and had a hollow in the middle. Worse was to follow as the fire alarm went off from 06.10-06.40 which was highly annoying and I never really got back to sleep after that.
The second night was trouble free thankfully, but the bed hollow meant it was like sleeping on a hillside.
The hotel is in an ideal location, but let down by a dodgy bed and an unwanted alarm call.

Room Tip: Higher the floor, the less the noise from the street.

“Not worth it”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 January 2012

The entrance hall is unwelcoming as soon as you walk in and has a strange smell. The elevator is dirty. The service from the employees is okay, but one or two I found to be unhelpful. The family room is dirty, the bedding is clean, but the bed is uncomfortable. Very old decor and found the chair full of crumbs. The remote for the tv didn't work and neither does the card key work to get into the room. The bathroom is clean, which is good, only thing is that the shower curtains have mould and the toilet flush was broken. Worse thing about this place was the 6am hotel wake up call when the fire alarm was set off on a Sunday morning. Also difficult to get a good night sleep with other customers playing music loud until 10pm. A lot of alcoholics and druggies also. Not worth a penny.

“Dirty”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 December 2011

Stayed here for two nights with my daughter whilst we had builders in the house.
We stayed in what they call a family room. This is like a regular room with a double bed and a pull out.
The couch was full of crumbs and dust and stains. The bed was the most terrible one I have ever slept or better tried to sleep on. No proper rost. Very soft and bouncy. Sheets with a stain.
Very dirty carpets with lost of crumbs etc. Dust bunnies under bed.
Bathroom was ok, looked clean enough.
The room had a kettle and tea and coffee which I didn't use.
Black out curtains that were not long enough to actually do their job.
Very noisy, lots of drunken guests returning from their nights out, slamming doors. Could hear everything that was going on next door.
Booked quite last minute and with £42 a night competent overpriced. Wouldn't stay there again if you'd pay me.

“not as bad as some reviewers think”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 November 2011

Clean with large rooms ,very clean bathroom ,bar of soap is provided towels are large and clean.mattress is a little soft and two pillows per person would be nice. Room 1006 was very quite and looked out over offices. Staff were friendly and efficient .Lift floor could do with a good clean but I expect that as there were a lot of workmen staying in the hotel that might be difficult to maintain. Some stain on bedroom carpet which might be chewing gum needs to be removed This is a very cheap and cheerful hotel with great 24 hr train access to london and would be excellent with a few small improvements

Room Tip: top floor rooms looking out on offices on whitgift centre side are very quiet 1004,1006,1011,1013,10...
